The Battle of Honey Island In the New Orleans Dulk-.'in of the 21st appeared an article entitled Negroes on the War rath," giving an account of a battle royal, ln-twcen the whites and blacks at ' the town" on iloney Island, in which a Mr. Crackerts and son were killed and 0 nt ,1m iinff.naa Inn AtaA linn n Ilia field of action" ; ond even from a gentleman who had conversed with a person oc the cars, from that locality, , did we hear something to the same effect. But from other reliable authorities, lately nt the locality, and well acquainted with it, and the persons there, we learn the whole story is worse than the "ButelrM fabric of a vuion." There is no ' town" on Iloney Island, or anywhere about there St. Tammany Parish, across Pearl River from Hancock Co, is a thinly populated, pine region, with tho whites mighty scattering, and proba bly not 25 negroes in radius oi as many miles. Ihero are some negroes employed hauling logs for the Poitevent mills and sorxe of them were dismissed and white drivers employed, and we learned that some of these negroes beat the boss driver, a Mr. BatCJ, but we are not suro that this is so. We would not have the presumption to read our big neighbor of the Bulletin a lecture, but we will remark that these sensational articles in newspapers about "rkirmishes" and "battles" between the racis which now. so often appear, and which are calculated to do much harm, are nine times out of ten, like the battles of the war, reported br the "reliable gentleman just from the front," all bosh , and only exist in the lively imaginations of excitable individuals of the "blow-ham'' order, who are always "longing for a fight" when thev are far beck in tlio rear. and whose ardeot wishes are "father to the thought;" Ocean 8pring Kilty- Company Lieut. And overmatching the emigration from the eastern states of America will come the people of Germany and Britain to whom Texas is indeed a land of promise and rewnrd. How many people are in Texas? In 1870 the census gave nearly a mil lion, but was taken with great in- dilterence, no man for tho par allow' ed could afford to do the work, no man did the work of a single counn It was largely made ut) of truesoes. Wo saw Gen. Longstreet riding on Canal street, Monday aiternoon, or dcritig citizens to "disperse and go home," that he intended to "rake the streets with canister." Such says the World (N. Y.) has not been done ia this fiee eountrr since the Boston massacre, when Major Pitcairn at the head of the King s troops marched upon the citizens on King street, and exclaimed : " Disperse ye Rebels " I lb Pitcairn's case it was in dispute who fired the first shot, in tho pres ent case there is no room for doubt. The Gatling gun opened the fire up on the citizens. It was Longstreet's aggressive nature that induced him to make the attack. He wante blood from this community and he got it, but the fortunes of war did not this time favor him, he was thrashed, badly tbrasbed and fled with a wound across his bony to the pro tec ting wall of the United States Cu"tomtnouse, where he kn w the citizens would not follow him.
