ELIZABETH'S SECOND BASEMEN John St. Clair Will Again Be With The Star A. C. This Season. John St. Olair, of State street, who is a well known and popular young baseball tosser of this city, will play second base wihjthe Star A. O. base ball team, of Elizabeth this year. The Stars have their first praotioe game on April 19. ^ All last season St. Olair was with >the team and did some verv fine work. Ohrisse O'Hara, a former Marion player, is mentioned as oenterflelder ^ with the same team. It is not known whether he will accept it or not. f SHAMROCK III LEADS WAY. i New Challenger Beats Old Boat In Fast Trial Races. The trial spins of Shamrock III and Shamrock I were resumed yesterday and in a race to leeward and wind ward the new challenger easily insti lled the prediction which her owner, > Sir Thomas Lipton, has made concern ing her speed, by beating the old boat at every turn. It was the first time that Shamrock III had had a thorough test both as to speed and gear, and the.results were a surprise to those in charge. The trials were regarded by experts as showing that Shamrcok Iiris great ly superior to the old boat in fresher i weather and more open water. In running off the wind in a light breeze Shamrock I was only some seconds a mile slow, but on the wind the chal lenger far outclassed her. Emeralds To Go To Keyport. The Emerald baseball club will go to Keyport Sunday afternoon where they will uave a battle royal for base ball honors with the famous Keyport *A. 0. baseball club. Manager Charles Oleson, of the Emeralds, has great hope of defeating the Keyport team. Deltas And Mohawks. The Delta baseball team will meet the Mohawk A. 0. baseball club on the KeaBbey diamond at 2.30 o'clock next Sunday afternoon. Both teams J are in good condition and both hope f to have the honors on the amateur baseball field this year. BASEBALL AT WESTFIELD. Promises To Be a Lively Tine At That Place This Season. The baseball season at West field, according to the Elizabeth Journal, promises to be lively. Here is what is said : "The big show in the baseball line for the season of 1903 in Union county will take place each Satuiylay and holiday at Recreation Park, Westfield. The sport will'start on Saturday after noon, May 2, when the craok West field Baseball Association nine will oross bats with the Seventh regiment team of New York Oity. The>port at Westfield is sure to draw large orowds, owing to the faot that there will be no baseball at Gran - ford or Bah way. The plan to locate the Equitables at Oranford has failed, as has also the plan to get together a looal nine to be known as the "trad ing stamp" team. RIVERSIDES TO PRACTICE. Captain Anxious To Defeat Copper Works Yard Tean On April 25. The Biverside baseball team is re quested to meet at the enclosed grounds, Smith street, at 1.30 o'clock Saturday afternoon. According to Oaptain James Ward, the boys have not gotten in the practice tjhey should have within the last few days, on account of bad weather and as the captain is more than anxious to de feat the Oopper Works yard team on Saturday, April 25, he requests that all his men come out to practice be ginning with Saturday. On The Bowling Alleys. The storm kept the snorts indoors last night and as a result the bowling alleys were in full swing.
