ECHO OF WRESTLINC MATCH. Everybody was so well pleased with the wrestling match between Hansen and Pascal Wednesday night, that the sports wonld like to see the catch-as catch-oan go. Pascal looks to be a powerful fellow and there were some great holds secured in their battle Wednesday night. Both men were at their best and worked hard. Hansen was the viotor. This settles the Graeco-Roman style. Catch-as-catch oan may have different results. Han sen lias been doing much of his wrest ling in both styles of late and he ought to be able to hold his own. Imagine a procession of 10,000 cat tle, marching two by ^ivo, in a line !15 miles long; let 20.000 sheep follow them, bleating along 12 miles ot road; after them drive 16 miles of hogs, 27,000 strong; then let. 30,000 fowls bring up the renr, clucking and quacking and gobbling, over a space of six miles; and in this whole cara van, stretching for nearly 50 miles and requiring two days to pass a given point, you' will see the animals devoted to death in the packing houses of Swift <fe Co. in a .Oigie day, says the Cosmopolitan. Surely a Buddhist would think that the head trf that establishment had much to answer for. Never before in the world's history was a massacre of the innocents organized on such a stupendous scale or with such scien tific system. Th# commander of the army of 20, 000 -men e^aged in this work earned his first penny picking cranberries in a swamp on Cape Cod more than 50 years ago. It was at Sagamore, on. that historic peninsula, that a son was born to the house of Swift on June 24, 1839. and named Gustavus Franklin. A few years later, when the boy was not picking cranberries, he drove hogs along the cape. It was like Napoleon exercising his in fant armies at school. 'HIS FACE SPOILS RAZORS. a Philadelphia Ilarlier IIhk a Cnstomer Whose Skill Is Always Poll of Grit. "Did yon see the man who just went out?" asked an uptown barber of a customer, as a swarthy individ ual left the shop, according' to the Philadelphia Telegraph. "Yes? Well, he spoils a razor every time I shave him, and he comes here twice a week regularly. He is a stonecut ter, and the grit and dust is so im bedded in the pores of his face that it is like drawing a razor over the side of a stone. I always use the best tools I have upon him, but they are not stone-proof, and a dull razor is the result when his beard is re moved, "He Is a customer upon whom I lose money, and I am glad to say that he is the only stonecutter who favors me with his patronage. I often wonder h?.w it is that he doesn't winee when the razor strikes a section of stone that is imbedded in his face and bounds off. but it is probably because his skin is so hard ened that he feels no ill effects." Football Havoc. The Maryland Medical Journal pro duces figures which show that re turns from 60 colleges covering ten years of time and including 1,374 sep arate teams prove the dangerous character of football. Chuse-d oy a King, Emperor Frederick William of Prus sia sometimes would signify his rejec tion of what he considered an absurd petition by drawing: on the margin an ass' head and ears. One day, a baron of ancient, patent having complained of another baron taking precedence of him, the king wrote on the petition: "Mere folly; whether a man sits above or below me, my birth remains the same."W^ftentimes he would ask peo ple in tne streets who they were, a peculiarity which made nervous peo ple evade the royal presence. One day when a man saw fhe king approaching he took to his heels, and ran, but Fred erick William pursued him in hot haste, and when he overtook* him asked: "Why did you run away from me?" "From fear," answered the man, whereupon his majesty gave him a heavy thwack with his cane, and said that he "wished himself to be loved, not to be feared." ? Chicago Daily News. Bacon in His Steamer Trunk. "What do you think of shipping a couple of sides of bacon to Germany in a steamer trunk?" asked a grocer. "A customer whose people live in the. fatherland came in here the other day and bought two sides of meat and gaye us particular orders to have them carefully done up, as he wanted to put them in his steamer trunk. He said his old folks liked American bacon, and that he always took a couple of sides as a present to his people, who live in one of the villages just back of the Rhine. I have made shipments of all sorts to European countries, but I never had another such order as that." ? N. Y. Press.
