Here is what the Oamden Oour ier says : , The Trenton authorities are deter mined to enforce the ordinance rela tive to dosrs, and up to date 2,006 oanines have been lioensed on pay ment of the tax by their owners. After the 1st of Jnly owners of dogs not licensed will be arrested and fined, and patrolmen are locating them and preparing for the dnty. Camden offloials are lax in regard to the en forcement of the dog ordinance and they should take pattern by their Trenton brethren and get to work at onoe. That has a tone about it that we like. Arrest the owner of the dog is a new way to get at the nuisance, bat how does that get rid of the tramp dogs, which are the real nnisanoe in Perth Amboy? A little ad7ice from Trenton in this regard wonld be great ly appreciated here. Oamden is to spend $16,000 for the purchaae^f a site upon whioh to ereot the aevm pnaegie library. Some local peopje/^ho do not like the building we have here and are opposed to the city appropriating money for the maintainaaoe of the structure, might do well to think over this fact. The local library, when entirely com pleted, will be a very creditable build ing. All the money could not be put on the exterior. The matter of granting or not grant ing licenses seems to be agitating many cities just now. Meantime our own Board of Excise continues at the same old stand not knowing whether it legally exists or not. Whether Governor Murphy wants to be United States senator not, it has set a great many people thinking. The annual appropriation of the oity of Passaic is $377, 8N8 and Camden's appropriation is just a little less than 11,000,000. Both of these have jnst been made. Pflrth Amboy's appro priation is less than $70,000. Passaic has a population of but 80,000 while Perth Amboy has 20,000. Camden has 76,000. The comparisons of appropria tions as to population show that our two sister cities are either very ex travagant or Porth Amboy is verv economical. It is getting pretty hot, but we can stand it for a few days. The ground is now moist and we can do without rain until over Sunday anyway. EDITORIAL COMMENT. Dr. Santos Fernandez, of Cuba, an nounces that mosquitoes bite jjnman beings because they cannot produce eggs without the warm blood of some hot blooded animal. That is easy. Keep out of the way of the mosquitoes and they cannot lay and soon there will be no mosquitoes to bite. ? Cam den Post-Telegram. V From festive Atlantic City cbmes the news that United States Senator Kean has opened headquarters at one of the hotels and set in motion his campaign for re-election. This is all right as early summer gossip, but when Uncle John reallv begins opera tions he will open headquarters in a bank not a summer hotel. ? Trenton Times. Justice Fort refused to allow a bill which included, for a jury of twelve good men and true, an item of 120 cigars at fifteen cents apiece. He ex pressed the opinion that fifteen cent cigars were too high for jurors to smoke, when tho'countv paid the bill. Justice Fort is "wise" to the fact that these self -same gentlemen proba bly smoke stogies when they are settled for out of their own incomes. On the other hand, the introduction of real Havannas might give jury duty a greater popularity than is now its portion. ? Elizabeth TimeB. Advertised Letters. H. O. Vincent, Steve Sabo. Mrs. E. J. "After what I have taken and done it is no wonder I am glad of an oppor tunity to recommend what cured me to my friends. I antfered intense agony from gravel for nearly fifteen years. For five and six weeks at a time I could not work, the pain was so great My kidneys and bladder were in horrible shape. My back ached so I could not sleep. I had no appetite at all. I tried about every doctor in Syracust but they failed to help me. - I used nearly all the advertised medi cines without any benefit. This was my discouraging condition when I began the use of Dr. David Ken nedy's Favorite Remedy. I used only four bottles and I consider myself cured I have no backache at all, no pain i$ passing urine, my appetite is splendid. It helped me from the start and I gained twenty pounds in weight." SOLE AGENTS Celebrated S3 HATS Tlie Oldest Tree. The cypress of Soma, in Lombardy, Is said to be the oldest tree in the world of which there is authentic rec ord. It is supposed to have been plant ed in the year of the birth of Christ, but the Abbe Belize tells us that there is a chronicle -t Milan which speaks of it as a grown tree in ihe time of Julius Caesar. A rival to this is the eucalyp tus, or gum tree, near the foot or Mount Wellington in Tasmania, which is 250 feet high and fully 30 feet in di ameter. A gigantic trunk in the prov ince of Oxaca, in Mexico, measures 200 feet in circumstance at Its base, and according to an average rate of growth its age would exceed 3.000 years. Cypress trees in parts of Amer ica are very long-lived; by counting the concentric rings where they have been sawn through it has been esti mated that 1,600 years is no uncommon period of growth with them. Many other examples have been quoted of veteran trees which grow in Califor nia, Ceylon and elsewhere, and some British oaks and yews are of extreme old age. ? Boston Globe. . ? Her Specialty.
