After a hard light they c succeeded in saving the building but | tho entire contents, which Rabinowitz a says were worth $3,000, were ruined, r It was just a few minutes after 2 j o’clock this morning when Policeman f Jensen, who was patrolling State i street, noticed smoke issuing from I the store in great volumes and he ran to box 65 and turned in the alarm. f The firemen were soon at the place - and alter they had batted down the floor and entered they were nearly g driven back by the great clouds ot t black smoke. * They finally got tho water turned on and a stream was soon playing on 7 the blaze. It was a fierce fight for ^ them, for the more water they put on, ^ the thicker the smoko seemed to be come, and it was nil they cpnld do to s stay in the building a few minutes 2 and then be relieved ty other firemen, j Finally they succeeded in getting the blaze extinguished and after most 1 of the smoke had rolled away and \ they had thoroughly investigated and found that all the tronb.'e for them £ was over, they left for their head- a quarters. n Wnen Mr. Rabinowitz was seen by v a News reporter, this morning, lie ij declared that he could not say how j the fire started as he did not know. The damage, ho said, was about $3,000 * because everything was destroyed, of ^ this $1,000 was all tho insurance that was carried. ^ --- ■ ■ - - ti m fiTl iii ilfiiiHMIIIlBlllli'iVMliiWWtflHf|i WMIHJW||ITI^ If Si YOUR<^ I ‘ POCKETBOOK I; ^ SMILES I; when it sees values such as these. j| s Ladies’ all wool Walking Skirts, positively M - 5.00 and 6.00 quality and style, at . $3.98 Ip " ^Sample Skirts you know) £>£ Crochet Spreads, full size, value up to i.oo,at 69c C (just the right weather for Spreads) c Boys’ guaranteed not to rip Knee Pants, 75c grades, good variety of patterns, at.49c Come quick if you want 1.25, 1.50, and a few g 2.00 White Waists, at.49c 1 To-morrow Thursday only. 166 SMITH STREET Q — t- Cor.
