PUBLIC 0 INION Editor Evening News: You are very kind indeed to allow people to answer questions, but in my s communication to your paper on Thursday I did not ask any questions that I now remember that needed to ' be answered. I simply made a state ment of such facts as I have procured from a good reliable source. If I have propounded a question it would certainly have been to an unbiased person. If I am encroaching on the Rector street sidewalk I am exceedingly glad that I am not living there alone, and that I am in such good company, for ' 1 am quite sure that all of the resi r dents on that street, from Smith to 1 Gordon, and especiallv on the east s side of the street., know right well that tliev are over the line as to side walk and they do not need to go to the city surveyor to ascertain the fact. e And further, if I am three feet over the line then a short distance below 1 me they must be six feet at least, and I have nor seen any sarcastic charges t made against them, i Further, I paid assessments and many of them, before some of our present zealous promoters were born, and thus helped to keep the city alive * in order that the present generation might perpetuate the good work and leave to their posterity a city tre Intendous in growth and wealth. I am told that the city would not be likely to rime inis matter up at too pregeui titrie and build this street for the reason that it would bo difficult per haps, to float the bonds, but to show that I am uot trying to evade an assessment, as ctiarged, when the I* proper material is selected, and the cost of building obtained, with the . rest of tin residents on the street, ii . built from Smith street to Lewis street. I will pay mv proportion in advance and by this plan the city will j uot bi eotnpelled to issue bonds. ) Yonrs, SAMUEL G. GaRRETSON. D Advertised Letters. D - ~ John Mullen, R. Olseny, W. A.
