1 - ■' — F=^ $ & THE WORLD jfl A ? OF SPORT ATHLETIC MEET HAS BEEN DECLARED OFF. High School Boys have to Much Else to Occupy Their Time It is now generally understood that the proposed athletic met of the High School students will not take place. Yesterday afternoon had been decided upon as the last day of grace for boys who desired to have the event. They i did not appear on the track as they ' were requested, and, as was promised in consequence, the meet was declared off, by those in- charge. This apparent lack of interest is due, it is thought, to the many other things the studentB have to ocouDy their time at present. Training for football cuts out all chance of train ing for running, vaulting, shot put ting, and the other essential events of a field, meet. The decision not to have the meet.in October, will not in any way affeot the one proposed for next spring. FITZ TO FIGHT GARDNER. They are Matched to Meet in SanFrancisco in November. After months of challenging and s talk Bob Fitzsimmons and George ^ Gardner have been matched. All that remains to make the contest binding is the signing of articles. This the lighters say they will do in a few days. The fight is to to be decided U before the Yosemite A. O., San Fran cisco, in November. In meeting Gardner Fitz will have to reduce to 168 pounds. Gardner said lie would fight only at that weight. They are to scale this weight, and will tip the beam at 3 o’olook on the afternoon of the fight. The limit of the encounter is twenty rounds. The clnb will give the men a percentage of the gate re ceipts to be divided 76 and 25 per cent. To show their good faith the fighters must post $2,600 each by Oct. 15. The club will deposit $6,000. FOUGHT SIX ROUNDS. Kid Carter Able to Take Punishment in Good Shape. A fight that was a hard one was de cided at the Washington Sporting Club between Gus Ruhlin and Kid Carter in Philadelphia last night, who met for six rounds. It was the second meeting between the two in side of six weeks. Carter, who is barely out of the middleweight divi sion, fought Ruhlin as though the latter was iust his size. But the larger man easily outpointed him and would have received the decision had any been rendered. Twice Carter was on the verge of being knocked out. tj Real estate! Hansen feels happy now that lie has made a match with Jack Munroe. He says it was about time he got a chance at the miner. He is determined to do the fellotf. Cool mornings are just the thing for bicycle rides and thiB is Hansen’s favorite exercise. As is his custom, |a few days before the match, he will go to New York, to put on the finishing) touches in training. The £>ane realizes that he is up against a tough proposition. Munroe is a hard knot and has wrestled some of the best to be found. Oatch-as catch-can style is not as easy with the locnl man as Graeco-Roman, but the former is Mnnroe’s favorite and Han sen has'agreed to give him a go in that style. The match will be best two out of three falls. The fact that Mnnroe is the attraction is bound to draw a large crowd on October 6. TACKLE RUTGER’S PREP. High School Football Team Goes to New Brunswick Saturday. The Perth Amboy High School foot ball team are all ready for their first game Saturday afternoon when they will journey to New Brunswick to meet Rutgers Prep.
