At the weekly meeting the Cen tral Federation Union, New York, the pleasant news was public that there will be no famine here abouts. A delegate the Pie Salesmens’ Union that the threatened strike had been averted through the employers granting the union scale of $14 a week, and other concessions. !ihe Sovereign Grand Lodge, Inde pendent Order of Odd Fellows, which held its grand encampment in Balti more, Md., last month, has gone on reoord for its 986,000 members as favoring union labor. It has been in tended to have the United States Marine band lead the great procession in which 30,000 Odd Fellows will take part, but the protest of the American Federation of Musicians have prevail ed and the great band will not appeal during the encampment. Union musicians will be employed. The officials of the Amalgamated Association of Iron, Steel and Tin Workers have not as yet ordered a strike at the New Philadelphia, O., plant of the American Sheet Stee! Company, for the enforcement of the limit of output clause of the scale. Efforts are being made by the mem bers of the executive board of the sixth district to adjust differences anc no action will be taken until a furthei report is heard from them. Presidem Shaffer stated yesterday that the sit nation was grave, but he still hoped for an amicable settlement. Hoxie, of Boston, Mass., is conducting a campaign in behalf of the hook and line fishermen of Sea Bright, against owners of fish pounds, or weirs, along the Jersey coast. Suit has been begun in the United States circuit court at Trenton, and the case, which Mr. Hoxie wishes to make a test, is set down for the October term. The names of the defendants are with held f or the present. An affidavit signed bv sevoral fishermen of Sea Bright, nas been filed with the clerk of the court. Mr. Hoxie alleges that under the commerce clause of the constitution the weirs cannot be erect ed without the permission of the secretary of war and that, according to the U. S. Statutes, tney are ob structions to navigation and come under the jurisdiction of the United States courts. !
