Live Hat in a Brick Wall*
One day recently a brick wall in
Baltimore, which had not been toached
since 1871, was torn down, and in a lit
the-re for Stfyeacs. It flew out and was
captured. In the same cavity was
found the skeleton of another bat
which had not ‘been vigorous enough
to stand rtie long wait for light and
food.

tically assured is at present not very
large, but in the medical field it is al
ready fairly extensive. In the work
ing of X-rays and' in the marvelous re
sults achieved in the treatment of can
cer and blindness we have every hope
for great and unrirgersaily benefiting
results. In its industrial applicaton
we are somewhat restricted by the
extremely limited supffiy of radium
available, but it te stated that a small
fraction of an ounce, properly em
ployed, W'ouid probably provide a good
light sufficient for several rooms, and
W9uld net require reneW33 during the
present oentury. It has been calcu
lated that the energy stored up in one
gramme of radium is sufficient to
raise 500 toas weight a mile high. An
ounee would, therefore, suffiee t-e drive
a 50jhorsepcwer motor car at the rate
of 80 miles an hour round the world.
The Hydrophobia Microbe.
Dr. A. Negri, at Pavi, announced last
March the discovery of the specific mi
cro-organism of hydrophobia. He now
states that he has examined more than
10U dogs with natural or laboratory
hydrophobia, and has never failed to
find the specific micro-organism in the
nerve centers. On the other hand, be
! has never found it in ofher dogs.
