Philadelphians Preparing to Beautify City for July Convention. j PHILADELPHIA, Mar. 26:—Not ! since the great centennial exposition in 1X76 have the business men of Philadelphia made such elaborate preparations for decorating their es tablishments as are now under way for the convention and re-union of the Elks, which is to lie held here dur ing the week beginning July 15th next. Not only will the merchants and thousands of people In the principal residential sections aid in beautifying the oily for that occasion, hut the j authorities, it is expected, will take official cognizance of the convention ' and expend thousands of dollars in [decorating and illuminating the '■‘Public Buildings,” the largest and costliest municipal structure In the world. The electrical display on this one building will be wortli traveling miles to see. In addition the com mittee Is planning for numerous nov el effects in the matter of evening and daylight decorations and the Court of Honor which will be erected for a distance of almost half a mile on Broad street promises to be the most | magnificent piece of artistic work ev-j er attempted on it public highway. _ TO ENTERTAIN ELKS. Neighboring Lodges Will Help Tuke Care of Visitors at Philadelphia. PHILADELPHIA, Mur. 2 f.: Al though the convention and re-union of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, which is tif l>c held In this city during the week beginning July 15 next, is essentially a Phila delphia affair, neighboring cities in which Elk lodges are located will not be derelict in entertaining tin; thou sands of visitors who will participate in the festivities. Information has been received by Philadelphia Lodge that several nearby lodges are now planning to open their homes for the reception of the visiting hosts and be fore another month has passed a com plete program will have been ar j ranged for the entertainment of the visitors in the neighboring cities. Among the lodges which have already , indicated their intentions to extend special invitations to the visitors are Camden, Atlantic City, Chester and Long Branch. It is also believed that j “open house" will be kept by a num ber of other adjacent lodges, partic ularly those located at the larger sea-' 1 shore and mountain resorts.
