In Che Cbealrcs j PANTHER GIRL AT ROYAL·. Mme. Olga Perova, who since her unusually splendid costuming of the leading role In her Broadway suc cess, "Panthea," one costume ol which graced her exquisite form in such a manner that she was called the panther girl, so fit and ready did •he seem for the spring as would the sleek, shiny, sinuous inhabitant ol the jungle, has aroused such a fu rore of appreciation in the cinema world that it is scarcely to be doubted that she will continue her labors in this line and forsake the legitimate stage until managerial acumen may prove to her that a return to the speaking stage for even a season would further heighten the regard of American dramatic lovers for her art. Mme. Petrova is to be the feature in a powerful dramatic comedy story called "Extravagance," one peculiar ly adapted to her splendid gifts at the Royal theatre today. Tomorrow the soul stirring drama, *'The Power of Evil," with Henry King in the principal role will be the feature picture. BIG PLAYS NEXT WEEK. A sterling stock organization in a magnificent list of dignified plays that have scored recently unequivocal suc cess in the theatrical arena which means modern scintillating, up-to-date themes, handled by a cast of unusual excellence which completes great productions at popular prices and equals many of the dollar and a half attractions that visit here at frequent Intervale. The introductory plan on Monday afternoon will be Owen Davis' big American play of "Sinners," which was originally produced by William A. Brady at his New York Playhouse, where It ran for 321 nights. In selecting "Sinners" as an opening bill, Mr. Harder feels that he is giv ing one of the strongest plays that New York has produced in years. It is a play of emotions, it is wholesome, convincing, a picture of life as it really is. It shows the night life of the rich men of New York city, surrounded by the women of the great white way. Into this atmosphere comes a young, beautiful girl from a New England town. A fruitless quest for work dis courages her, and persuaded by the arguments of those around her she is about to follow the "easiest way" when Providence intervenes in the shape of word that her mother is dying. The play opens in a New York apartment, but the remaining three acts are portrayed in the home of the heroine where her former companions have followed her, but she has expe rienced a change of heart at the sight of her dear old mother and not only she. but the man who sought her as his best prey is brought to look at life In a different light in the pure atmos phere of the little country home. The author has left nothing undone to place before the public in absolute perfect manner what is critically re garded as the best American play of the day. Seats are now selling for the entire engagement. ORIENTAL NIGHT AT CITY THEATRE With Japanese trays, vanity cases and novelties, together with Turkish rugs and Hindoostaness table covers as specially attractive gifts tonight îo accentuate the introduction of wh'it^ is known as Oriental night, the City theatre promises one of the most en joyable of the extra features that have grown so rapidly in public esti mation at this theatre. Principal among the entertainers I new bill of vaudeville ^^■^^lcturcs that served to highly crowds last night was the novelty comedy offering of reiser and Leb&ck. To dilate on their many excellent attainments would require much space, and so it is only neces sary to state that their comedy ac complishments in knockabout acro batic work, singing, etc., quite mnde them the sensation of the current season. Jack Walters and Irene Jermon in a quaintly interesting comedy sketch founded on nature's trials and enti tled "A Bit of Life," were great fav orites; Harrington and Sadler, a gor geously garbed sister pair of singing and dancing stars, were heartily ac claimed and May Deverc was a strong card in her songs and dances. "Liberty," the ever popular patri otic picture, received its usual vocif erous reception, and "An Oily Scoun drel," a Keystone comedy featuring Fred Mace supplied an abundance of laughs. ι AT THE DITMAS. The distinguished character actor, Lew Fields, supported by Doris Ken yon, and a notable cast, will appear at , the Ditmas today in a picturtzation of I the well known play "The Man Who ' Stood Still." Second in importance will be the Hearst International News offered on the day of its release and giving the patrons of the Ditmas the news of the week while it is still news. The Rialto theatre in New York shows the Hearst International News each ι week and the same news pictures to be offered at the Ditmas tomorrow will be shown at the Rialto next week. Tomorrow brings back one of the greatest of David Belasco's successes. "The Girl of the Golden "West," which is the best western melodrama ever written. The Jesse L. Lasky Company produced this play with an all star cast that includes House Peters as the bandit, Theodore Roberts as Jack Ranee the sheriff, and Mabel VanBur-j en as the girl. The locale of the story, in California was used in the plcturi-i zation and lias been produced by Las ky with all the superb lighting effects,] regard for detail and disregard for ex pence that have made the Lasky pro ductions second to none on the screen today. The coming engagement of Mme. Nazimova in "War Brides" on Dec. 25, 26, and 27 promises to be one of the) society events of the season as Nazi mova lias always been a favorite of the smart set and as this is her first appearance on the screen her appear ance in this city will call forth the most fashionable audiences that have ever beheld a theatrical performance in this city. "War Brides" although a war play is a story of the home and the effect that war has on the women and children and for dramatic action easily surpasses anything ever before accomplished by the silent drama. The Ditmas management are announcing the scale of prices and the fact that mail orders will be accepted in a large advertisement in today's issue and patrons who wish special locations are advised to send in their orders at once as the interest already aroused means that "War Brides" will play to capacity audiences at all perform ances.
