Roosevelt, Oct. 6—Big things are happening at the Presbyterian church Where the various activities under •he pastor, Rev. William G. Simpson, •re growing day by day. Last Sun day night there were 148 people in the congregation and a general spirit ef good fellowship was apparent throughout the meeting. A good mu »ocal program and a half hour ot-so clal Intercourse were features of the eervice. Musical service· of the same •ort are planned all during the winter to come about once every six weeks. Mrs. Qalen Wood has accepted a position as teacher of the first year high school girls Sunday school class, «.nd as leader of the Camp Fire Qirls. The visitation conducted last Sun day afternoon was a monster success, ■when calls were made on 170 families. It was a means of letting people of the borough know what the church stands for, and what Is planned for the fall and winter. New members and pew workers for the church were fotmd, and many Vere aroused to a renewed Interest and attendance as a result of the vis itation. Sunday Is "go to church" and "go to Sunday school" day. Everyone has been urged to come out to church on this day of days. Both in the church and the Sunday school, as effort is being made to mark October 7 as a day of record breaking attend ance. Mr. Simpson will preach at the morning service, on "What Is Reli gion?" An opportunity will be given on Sunday also, for parents to have ' their children baptised. Names of all1 children whose parents désiré to have them baptised should be in Mr. Simp Bon's hands by Saturday night. Rod Cross Meet Tuesday A big mass meeting of the borough ^-branch of the Red Cross wLll be held in Odd Fellows' Hall on Tuesday night, when prominent speakers of the Atlantic division will be present to address the members and others at the meeting. Eric Allen, field secretary of the Atlantic division, will spend Tueeday In the borough on Red Cross work, and will probably remain for the meeting. Another speaker will be secured who will tell of the work of the Red Cross and Its importance at the present time. Mrs. Calderhead, chairman of the local branch, announced yesterday that already the branch has supplied no less than four knitted sets to en listed men of the borough, and that che has other sets which are to be given to the men as soon as possible. The sets Include sweaters, mufflers und wristlets. Mrs. Calderhead has Issued a re quest that all persons having Red Cross flags from the send-oft parade, return them to her as soon as possi ble that they may be returned to the proper owners. A flagstaff is being raised on the Red Cross headquarters at the Liebig plant upon which will be placed the national as well as tho Red Cross flags. DiSCUSS PUNS FOR LINKING PENN«. Ν. Y. AND N. J. Trenton, Oct. 5—Plans for the link ing of New York and Pennsylvania more closely to New Jersey through the medium of either bridge or tun nels were discussed generally here yesterday by the Hudson River Com mission and the Delaware River Com mission which are both studying this subject. The two bodies met In joint session. After the conference It was learned that the commissions are awaiting to hear from General George W. Goe thals, who, as state engineer, Is stu dying the possibilities of tunneling the two rivers, the Hudson and Dela ware, so as to connect with the cities of New York and Philadelphia. The proposition of levying a direct state tax to pay for the improvement, when Its form Is finally decided upon, was also freely discussed, without any apparent decision as to this phase of the subject. Both the north and south Jersey commissions expect to have their an nual reports ready for submission to the Governor and the Legislature by the first of next January. Mr. Mitchell says: "In the furtherance of the great principles of self-government, liberty and Justice, it is the colemn and im perative duty of every citizen of the •tate and nation to do hie full share In Order that the war may be brought to a speedy and successful termina tion. "Many of us because of age or other disqualification will not be permitted to participate aotlvely under the col ors of our country, but we can make an Invaluable contribution to the suc cess of our arms and the protection of our soldiers and sailors—many of whom are our own eons—^by furnish ing the money which the government needs to finance the war. With this in mind we urgently recommend to the organized wage earners of our state that an actlvo campaign be Inaugurated through the local unions and central bodies for the purpose of the Liberty Bonds. Committee® should be appointed to cooperate In the distribution of these bonds and to make suitable arrange ments with the bank· so that our members may pay for them on the in stallment plan.
