Hinsliaw. chairman of the Prohibi
tion party, called today for vigilance
committees to "arise all over the
country to co-operate with the en
forcement official*. ” Mr. Hinshaw
sounded this note in opening a na
tional prohibition conference and
meeting of the Prohibition national
committee.
"We face a new opportunity, an
opportunity to enforce the law that
now exists," the prohibition chair
man told the conference. "This is
our Job
“If we cannot get the administra
tion now in power to lead the way
ive shall have to elect one that will.
"One of the disappointing things
tbont our President is that he has
made no public appeal to the na
tion to uphold the 18th amendment,
md he appointed a secretary of
treasury conspicuously known as

church will hold a Christmas sale

NEWARK, Nov. 29:—The build-1
ing fund campaign of Salaam Tem
ple A. A. O. N. M. 8. received a big |
boost last evening at the temple's
ceremonial sessslon in the Kruger
Auditorium where a call for sub
scriptions from the floor increased
the total of bond sales from $307,750
to $901,450.. The additional $93,700
was obtained in a comparatively
brief space of time.
In spite of unfavorable weather
condition*, the attendance was large.
The event was made the more Inter
esting by the presence of a number
of visiting Potentates of leading
temples of the east. Nobles from
every section within the Jurisdiction
of Salaam, which embraces the thir
teen northern counties of New Jer
sey. end from many points outside
the Jurisdiction listened to talks by
the Illustrious Potentate, Edwin 8.
Bream, of Elisabeth; Louis V. Aron
son of Newark, chairman of the gen
eral campaign committee; Albert
Ix’on of Perth Amboy, and Judge
James W. McCarthy of Jersey City.
Noble Leon aroused the audience
to a high pitch of enthusiasm by an
eloquent appea] to the loyalty of th
nobility. Judge McCarthy then took
the platform and. striking an inspir
ational note, called for subscriptions
for 'he building bonds.
The potentate and Noble Aronson
congratulated majors, captains and
lieutenants upon their efficient wo.k |
and declared til 1 the campaign was
going strong, with excellent pros
pects of reaching the quota of $1,
250.000.
Further plans for the wind-up of
the campaign will be discussed at a
meeting of the general campaign
committee at the Temple's headquar
ters, 1020 Broad street, tonight.
REFUSED TO GOTONEWARK
TO BRIHGHIS BOY HOME
A distressing case of parental in
difference and delinquency was
brought to the attention of the po
lice department yesterday when
Lieutenant Andrew Jensen attempted
to induce a Maurer man to go to
Newark and bring home his sixteen
year old son who. according to a
telephone report, is held there by the
police. It is claimed that there is
no specific charge against the lad
but that he was picked up by the
police as he was wandering about
the city.
When notified of his son's arrest
and informed that the boy would be
released if his father went for him.
the man is declared to have refused
to take any interest in his son's fate,
and had no time to get his son out
of trouble. "They can put the boy
in the reform school for all I care,”
the father yvas quoted as saying.
After several appeals failed. Lieu
tenant Jpnsen informed the man
that he would be arrested on a de
linquent parent charge if he failed
to go after his son and he has been
given until this afternoon to decide.
