► INTEREST IN BOWLING LEAGUE GAMES ON TONIGHT Speedway Five Wins From Ward’s Boxers A big crowd of fans turned out on Saturday night to witness Georgle Ward and his Fighting Five from Elizabeth in action on the Auditor ium basketball court against the Perth Amboy Speedway quintet. A. tho'jgh the fast traveling Perth Am boy Speedway team in registering their thirteenth consecutive victory, outclassed their opponents in every department of play, tho battlers suc ceeded in keeping within reaching distance of the home players throughout tho game. The iinal score of the contest was 35-30. What Georgle Ward and his asso ciate Jaeked in basketball ability, they made up for in their comical actions. Joe Kiegal. trainer of the welterweight champion of this state, led tho visiting team in scoring, be ing credited with making six double counters. Kiegel also was the coml W cal star of the game, his actions keeping the fans on the go during tho forty minutes of play. * s Harry Kegan, star of the flee hawken basketball team, dropped in five counters from the field in this contest. Ilia floorwork was a feature of the game. Although it is said, all champions of a certain branch ol sport, are not there when trying their ability at another branch, this is not true of Georgia Ward. He made a much better showing on the court in this city thanVdid Babe Huth who appeared on the Auditor ium court last season. Ward made two field goals in the first half of this games and his passing was a big factor in the play of his team. During the first ten seconds of play in the game on Saturday night the Speedways succeeded in dropping in a field goal. This was the result of a tap to forward, and a return Pans to Pete Hansen. A short time later Ttsgan dropped in a two pointer for the visiting team, and the battlers succeeded In giving the local hoys a real tussle for a time. Once the locals were turned up to handle the task before them, they found that it was possible to make the game a one-sided affair. Know ing that the funs would be more in terested in a close contest, lnasmuch as Kiegei had them in good humor, the Speedways eased up in their play During the first session Kay Han derhan made four field goals. Pete Hansen three. Brownmlller two and Bradley and Bob Hander han each one. For the* visitors Re gan scored four, Kiegel/three. Ward two and McCrann one. The score at half time was 23-20. In the second half the home team scored-six field goals to five for the visitors. Kay Handerhan made three double counters in this session, Pete Hansen, two, and Bradley one. Kie gal scored three for the Elizabeth team, and Regan and McCrann each one. Gene Parker was the eleventh man on the floor in this game. Few fouls were called, however. Inasmuch as the Speedways were well aware of the fact that they were stacked against fighters. The score: Speedways O. F. Tl. R. Handerhan. f.7 0 14 Brownmlller. f . 2 0 4 P. Hansen, c. 5 1 11 B.
