Eleven Minutes After Alarm
of Th.efi is Made
TOTTENV1LLE, Fob. 10—In the
arrest of two men. both colored, fol
lowing a report that one hundred
spark plugs had been stolen from a
garage in Prince Bay about 7 o’clock
lust night, the police of Slaton Is
land believe they have made an
important capture.
The tw.f men with a woman riding
in a Marmon limousine drew up at
Frey’s garage in Prince Bay about 7
o’clock last night and nskvd Mr-.
Benjamin Frey, who was. the only
■■ one in the place at the time for a
l ouart of oil and water for tin in •
« bine. Shortly after the two men
had left in the car Mrs. Frey miss«u'
the spark plugs. She notified Lieu
tenant Henry Hirers at the OOlh pre
cinct station .Tottenvillo, of the loss
of the plugs and gave him a parti..I
description of the two men. One was
about twenty years old raider thin
and the other was between forty and
fifty years old, rather stout and that
they wore in a grey limousine, shv
said. This was at 7:30 o’clock.
Lieutenant Klfers sent cut the
alarm at 7:31 and within eleven
minutes after the alarm was sent out
and every ferry leaving the island
was covered, the two men and wo
man were captured at the St. George
lorry by Patrolman Quinlan of tin:
ti6th precinct station, Stapleton, and
Detectives Wilbur and Kronbitter of
ths Seventh Inspection District. The
men and the woman were taken to
ths Stapleton station where they
gave the names as William Hatton,
forty-one years old. of 2.403 Seventh
avenue, Manhattan; William Fields,
iwenty-six years old. of £8 West
139th street Manhattan, and Mrs.
•lennle Hatton, wife of the former.
She was not hefd becauses Mrs. Frey
did not sec her in the car at tho
time.
xiiv Hparji piugs were iuuiiu in me
possession of the men and were
identified hy Mrs. Frey, who went
to Stapleton and identified the two
men as the ones in her garage. Tt

ing apparel, bolts of silk and cloth,
cut glass, pots and pans. beside*
other automobile accessories which
it is believed had been stolen from
other places. Tile ownersh'p of the
automobile was still in doubt last
night despite the fact that Hatton
said that lie had a bill of sale for
the car and that he was the owner.
The license number of the car was
(133.031 -V. Y.. which coula not be
verified late last night. They said
they cafnef rom Trenton at first and
then Washington. Both -men were
locked up in the 65th precinct sta
tion on a charge of grand larceny
and will be arraigned in court today.

ter to the grand jury which Is now
session. Detective Sergeant
Schley of the Eighth Branch Bu
reau, was working on the ease last
Bight in an effort to find out whore
the other stuff came from. Lieuten
ant Elfers was complimented for ills
quick action in sending out the
alarm and the capture of the men
before they could get off the island.
