He played with Billy Pfau's f Perth Amboy Atlantic league team I of a good many years ago. and also I cavorted with the Dupont Powder I Company when this outfit was con ceded to be one of the beat In the county. East season Henshaw play ed the entire season with a West Virginia league nine and this season he received numerous offers from tbe south and also from leading Newark and Elizatfeth nines. Messrs. Poulseq and Applegate have acquired Henshaw for the opening game but his future here depends entirely on his consideration of oSers from Newark and Elisabeth teams. Every effort Is being made to get this player in the Elisabeth city league which starts a week from this Sunday. The local magnates are of the opinion that they can secure the services of Henshaw for the sea son. Inasmuch as Henshaw. Apple gate and one or two of the other Amboy players of today were pals on Billy Pfau * team. The acquisition of the big South River tosser greatly strengthens the local lineup. Henshaw will be some what of a pivot for the local Infield. Runner* coming Into aecond base will think twice before making an effort to make the big second aacker step aside. He adds a world of strength to the batting power of Ap plegate’s team. Henshaw is one of the best liked ball players In this county. Applegate and Poulsen made it known last night that an ef fort had been made to secure "Jess" James to guard the initial sack for their team this season, but du# to the fact that he Is leaving for the South May 1, it would only be possi ble to have him here for one game. A tip was received on "Jiggs" Don ahue and the Newark star was Im mediately signed. Donahue, it ts said, rates with the best first seek ers that ever played on the local field. The Elisabeth Knights of Colum bus will come here with its strongest lineup on Sunday afternoon. Everything is In readiness for the handling of a big crowd, and many out cf town light fans are ex pected to visit the borough tomor row night. Many tickets have been sold to light fans from Plainfield and Elisabeth. In addition to the ring engage ments, there are a number of vau deville numbers on the program for this show. BROOKLYN CENTRAL T BOWLERS HERE TOMORROW A close bowling match is antici pated tomorrow night on the Y. M. C. A. alleys when the Brooklyn Cen tral “Y"1 team comes here for a three-game match. The Amboy team was defeated tn three straight games by the New York state “Y" champs on their own alleys about three Weeks ago, but the Amboy men are confident of turning ths tables on their own alleys. The Rahway team, which is also uphold ing the honors of New Jersey in this tournament picked the fast Cincin nati (Ohio) team for Its opener. The strongest team possible will be used by Capt. George W. Sharp. Jr., in an effort to put Perth Amboy on the map In this volley ball tour ney which is the biggest thin* in this line of sport ever attempted in this country- To date twenty-seven teams from all parts of the United States and Canada have ontered and vouched for their appearance. It is expected more than thirty tenms will be on hand Friday afterpoon when the tourney is opened. The opening game will be played at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon and (he schedule will continue until late Friday night. The games will be re sumed early Saturday morning and continue through the afternoon and night until the world's champion team has been decided. The crack Germantown team, which defeated the Perth Amboy team here last year, considered the strongest in the country, will have he honor of playing tha opening natch in the tournament. It is not tnown aa yet what team will op pose it. One of the teams about which a treat amount of Interest is centered s the I’ueblo. Colorado, team. This earn no doubt is traveling the treatest distance of any entered in >rder to play and they have a big -eputation. Practically all of the teams are icing accompanied by a band of oyal rooters and the Perth Amboy earn will not be an exception as many volley ball fans plan to see he games. The double elimination system is to be used in the tourney, which means that if a team is defeated in i match, it will not be eliminated from the contest, but will play an other team which also was defeated, if defeated a second time, however, a team is out of the tournament. The winner of the final contests be tween the teams which lost their first matches will then play the un defeated team. Jack Quinn was headed for victory in the game between the Red Sox and the Yankees, which was stopped by rain on Monday afternoon. Slier, the iter of the local asso ciation team, will endeavor to hold Handerhan to a reasonable score and if he Is successful In doing this, the T. M. H. A. team and followers believe that the Speedways will be beaten. There is one player in this vicinity who can play Handerhan to a “t" and that baaketeer la RuBe Allen, coach of the Y. M. H. A. team. Monday night the Y. M. H. A. team was put through a practice session in preparation for the game tomorrow night, and it is said Coach Allen gave Sher an illustration of how he plays the Speedway advance man. In previous contests Handerhan and Sher have had interesting tus sles. and a big majority of the fans who come out for tomorrow night's game will center their attention on these two players. The remainder of the players on the Y. M. H. A. team have doped out how they will hold their own with the Speedway players ao that the result of the game ia expected to real on tha playing of Handerhan and Sher. Y. M. H.
