M U * ’ _ _ SEX AND COMMON . SENSE TOLD BY WOMAN BY A. MAUDE HOYDEN Voted English Evangelist and World's Greatest Woman Preacher HOT SPRINGS. Ark.—The world tj at the crossroads. We are either to go on the road to destruction or the road which leads to a new and greater humanity It is up to the woman to produce $ new type of human being with in glght and imagination enough to realize that "if one member suffers all the body suffers with it!"—even (hough the suffering members be half a world away! . With many fa ft ores with many reactions it can. I think, be seen as history unrolls its record and civil zations rise and fall that the move ment of humanity has been toward a more stable, a more responsible, a more disciplined but not less pas sionate form of relationship between men and women. The* Sc\ Instinct Must It * Ennobled The sex instinct should be neither repressed nor degraded, but trans muted and ennobled. Every married lover will tell you | If his love is to remain what it was in the beginning—if it is rather to grow in power and beauty—he. also she must be able gradually to trans mute his love in such a way that the spirit dominates the flesh more and more. The physical side of marriage then becomes simply an expression of the love of spirit, the perfect final expression—the sacrament of love. If men and women understood each other a little better they would hurt each other i good deal less. fy ut‘ch»r-people tell us that the *^"Tung seem to have "no morals at *Til” I ask myself whether the repu diation of much that has been called •'morality" was not after all, a ne cessity if we were to advance at all. I believe that the present day ten dency to reject all moral standards is largely due to the refusal of an older generation to examine and justify its own standard. Not Surprising Hut I>i-aatrous It is not surprising that people j begin to say: "Let us eat and drink, , for tomorrow we die. Let us experi- i erne all we desire. Let us act like the normal healthy creatures that I we are. Lot us ignore the flimsy I barriers -i corrupt and imbecile j moral code would erect between us I and what we desire." It is not at all surprising—but it I Is disastrous! It seems to me of supreme impor tance that every child that is born should be desired and that no mother's time and strength should be so far overtaxed as to prevent her giving each child all the love and individual care that It requires. I want boys and girls, men and women, to see far more of each oth er and get to know' each other much better than in the past. It is in this closer und-standing that the new humanity will be born. Marriage is the must difficult of human relations because it is the most intimate and the most perma nent. To live so close to another— who. in spite of ail remaims another -—to be brought so near, to associate po intimately with another person ality without marring or wounding — that is difficult. No wonder mar riage is not Invariably a success! (Copyright, 1922, NEA Service) DEFEND RADIUM AS CURE FOR CANCEROUS GROWTH ATLANTIC CITY. April 27—Dr. J.eo Buerger, New York surgeon, came to the defense rt radium treatment for cancer at the Amer ican Urological Association meeting today. He also announced a new I method of treating without cutting cancerous growth in parts of the jbody heretofore inaccessible. This method employs the crystoscope. an instrument as yet little known. Dr. Buerger said there are two .ways of treating cancer by radium. One is by use of radium in a prom inent form and the other by insert ing it is line needlelike glass tubes these being retained in the growth, which is thereby destroyed. With the cystoscope and an electric light attachment it is possible for the sur geons to implant radium needles In the cancerous growth, their des tination being perfectly controlled by a tiny deflector. Another speaker on the same topic was Dr. George Smith .a Bos ton surgeon, whose papers treated of the benefits derived from combining radium with surgery in cancer aanes.
