East Sunday afternoon the Stam * fords traveled to East Orange and engaged in a tussle with the strong r-prcsentatlve team of that place. Twice when the tide was rapidly turning in favor of the New England state team home runs gave the home team a fighting chance and the ...me. DU PONT TEAM Opening of Saturday Season at Raritan Copper Works Tomorrow Afternoon Two of the leading contendere for the Middlesex county Industrial base ball championship In past season*, will clash on the Raritan Copper works held tomorrow afternoon. It is the opening contest of the season R>r the Ingots and a good sixed crowd is expected out. The Dupont team has been play ing ball for the past six weeks, and to date has engaged in about ten contests. In this way the Parlin team has an advantage over the lo cals. but Manager Harry Applegate reports that his forces are in good condition and are ready to go Into battle with all contenders for the county industrial title. Reed, a new man In these parte and who halls from Camden, is ex pected to care for the mound duties for the home team, while Tommy Van Glider will be stationed behind the platter. The remainder of the Copper works lineup has not been decided upon. The Tarlln management has not decided on his lineup for this game, but It Is likely that It will be the same as has represented that organ isation on the diamond to date this year. In the main tvent Joe Partello. Italian wrestler of Chicago, will meet Joe Vargo, 201 pound champion of Hungary. The main event will bo decided two out of three falls, all to a finish. Vargo Is traveling through many of the leading cities in this section, re cently having met a contender for his title in Trenton and another one in New Brunswick. For the bout tonight Partello and Vargo will beta weigh in about 200 pounds. Vargo is credited with recently holding Wladek Zbysxko even for me hour in a mat contest at Tren ton. The Madiaons scored a run In the last of GERMANTOWN CHAMPIONS HERE TOMORROW NIGHT The Germantown (Pa.) volley ball team which invades this city tomor row night for a five game match with the local T. M. C. A. varsity In the concluding contest of the season for the Amboy team, is the logical national championship combination, it being the only tesm entered in the national tourney this year to defeat the Pittsburgh “T" team, which won the championship honors. In deciding the national cham pions four teams were finally left out of a field of more then thirty. In these concluding matches games and not matches were counted. Pittsburgh succeeded in taking two straight games from Johnstown end Philadelphia Southwest but lost two out of three to Germantown. Ger mantown. although it defeated each of these three teams, lost one game in each m-teh. The final percentage gave Pittsburgh the higher average and thence the title. Tomorrow night’s match, which will be largely attended, tickets hav ing sold fast in advance, should de cide whether the Amboy team has improved any since last year. When the Germantown team made its ini tial appearance here last year it took five straight games from the locals. The showing made by Amboy at Brooklyn in the national tourney this year, however, has mads the local players confident that they can not only give the Germantown team stiff opposition but defeat it. The final practice of the local var sity will be held at 7 o’clock tonight. All members are urged to be on hand promptly at this hour. To morrow night's match will start at 8 o'clock.
