vere snowstorm of the winter prevailed
over the western part of this Stato
today and was still raging tonight. The
thormomcter, which registered early
in tho day 10 degrees bolow zero, drop
ped to 22 degrees below zero touight.
HANS SCHMIDT GETS DEATH
SENTENCE.
Now York, Feb. 5. Bans Schmidt,
ex-Priest, w-as found guilty today of
murder In the first degree for killing
Anna Aumullcr, a young woman whom
ho hud married through a self-porform
ed vcicmouy while acting as a priest
nt St. Joseph's Church. Tho penalty
for the crime is death in the electric
chair at Sing Sing prison. He will be
sentenced next Wednesday.

Ono of the mofet noted characters ever
concerned in ono of the world's most
celebrated minder trials is dead.
Oeorgu II. Jackson, colored, formerly
of this city died at Springfield, Ohio,
Tuesday, uud was burled there yester
day. Jackson claims ho 'drove the hack
containing Pearl Bryan and her mur
derers, Jncksou nnd WulIIng, tho night
they carried hor from Cincinnati,
across tho bridge nnd out to near Fort
Thomas, wkero thoy murdered tho girl
and cut off hor head.
Oeorgc Jackson was tho main witness
against Jackson nnd Walling and
it was largoly on his cvidonco thnt tho
two mea wore hanged on March 20,
1897.

Vaiicelmrg, Ky. Albert Ad kins, 22
years old, of Mnysville, Ky., was found
dead at Harrison, Ky. Ed Ford, aho
of Maysilli, was lomnl beside the body
of Adkins, but was rovhed later.
