From Franklin Township, Franklin Grasps; Monroe Co.,-0 " -J cvember 18, 1875. f Ed.. Spirit:. We have a tirange in this township numberiirg about 60 mem bers. We are' assailed Tjy outsiders who deaounceour coming .together, as ru- iiYouS to the business of the country. We claim this to , be.., untrue. Farmers nave J)eeu guiU'U more iriau .aiijf-yuus' c!o83 by midille men, simply because they had no organization to protect them. , We. have concluded to dispense with a portion oi tuem ana ao s pari oi the busiuess ourselves. . fliany are op posed to usin the grounds of secrecy! All the secrets we have contain nothing that will injure any man's conscience or business. They are necessary to , tbe wel'are of iae Order to protect us from the unworthy. Many laboring men have conceived a deep -seated prejudice 8gafnst; th Order' because ;they have beeartaugit tbat y is; a combination to keen down 'the 'price of labor. This ' is alscfaisei Werenardtbe laborer, with the most, fi jendly interest as our right hand man and it is for! his ngbW we coutend for are we not all Jaborers ourselves?.' .Whatever may be said of the merits and defects of the system it cannot be denied that tbe Order has brought farmers and manufacturers clo ser together and reduced the commi Slon on many ' Btaple 'articles.'. Since 1 have .been a'member. I ' 'have purchased several articles at'a".si'irig of" from 50 to 4. per cent"; .among them was a pair of 4 ton scales," the price of which was 8160 set up by an agent I bought tbera at the place of manufacturing : for 860 and set them up myself. They are the U S. Standard Scale and no better are made. ' This is but one illustration. Why should not every farmer be a Pat ron f nit will injure him Ju jio way, but benefit him iu many.ways.
