Having more mon ey by him than he thought best to take with him, he put it into a tin can and placed it into a stove that was seldom used, and forgetting it for several days, when he received more money, went to get his can to put it away. Judge of his surprise when, on peering into the can, he saw sixty dollars in ashes and a five dollar gold piece lying on the bot tom ot the can, all black.
