Getting Ready for Work. The open

honse builders, and buildings thit remained
incomplete when the fold weather set
are being finished off, and preparations for
the erection of others are goii g forward.

An Important Law. The Ohio States
man says that on the 97th of February the
General Assembly passed an aet entitled "aa
act relating to roads and highways,' of eon
siderable importance, inasmuch as it abolish.
es thn office of Supervisor of roads and hgh
wava. and rives to the trustees of the several
townships control and supervision of all pub-
lie roads and highways, and requires the
erection of guide boards at the forks of all
roads in tbe State.
The River and Harbor BUI Pasted.
Tbe following note front General Bueklaud
announces the passage of the River and
Harbor bill by both Houses:
Washikoton, D. 0., March 1, 1867,

Hsrbor bill has passed both Houses, ineludkg

ttiver. It only requires tbe signature oi toe

Another Patent to a Sandusky Co.
Man. Mr. 8. W. Jscksoo, an intelligent
farmer in Ballville township, thit couuty, has
received a patient on an improvement which
he has perfected in shovel plows. We learn
that farmers and practical mechanics who
have seen his improved plow, pronounce it
invention of the greatest utility. He is
prepared to dispose of territorial rights, and
those wishing to engage in tbe business will
well to iddress him and learn full particu
lars.
Is this so? We clip the following item
from the Findlsy Jtffersunimi of this week:
A a, FaitMo.tr. We have to record another
fellow aa being swindled at the Fremont
depot saloon. ' 'n Monday last a green one
lost h'S watch valned at thirty dollars, ty
throwing dice at Ihe aforeeaid swindling shop
People who stop at that depot should have
their eyea opened for these swindlers, for
they are there at all timee'teeking whom
they may dcvour,"and the authorities of
rrmont bave not eot the nerve to drive
them out. It won't help tbe reputstion of
that town.
For Foundry Men. A correspondent of
the Scientific American writing from Spring
field, Ohio, ssys that cores for iron castings,
can be made better with sorghum skimmings
and ssnd than by the nsual rye flour, molas
ses, sBd sand. 'He gives thit as the recipe.
One quart sorghum skimmings, sixteen
quarts water and sharp saud enough to make
the mixture of the proper consistency "I can
make more aires with one barrel of skiro
mings and better than must meuldeis can
ith four barrels of the other."
A Suggestive Picture. one of the
finest and roost suggestive remit dets of the
late war that we have seen in works of art is
engraving by J.C Bultrie. entitled "Tbe
Empty Sleeve." It represents a soldierly-
looking young man, in semi-military garbi
holding ic his one arm a beautiful boy who,
with the natural curiosity of childhood, is in
vestigating tbe empty, sleeve that hargs
where the other arm should be. The en-
graviug it one of rare merit, and will un
doubtedly find a niche for itself in many
houses hereabout. Mr. W. H. Wilson has
agency for its sale in the Counties of
Sandusky, Erie and Hancock. And as will
seen by his notice elsewhere, he wants
agents in every towns! .ip in these o uniis.

The "Fat Woman" in Detroit. Our
readers probably remember the "Fat Wo
man" show, which "played out" in this city
about two asonths ago. The following from
Detroit Advertiser, shows that the "Fat
woman" still lives:
Wm. Perry, doorkeeper at the "fat wo-
msnn'' show on Jefferson avenue, who was
recently arrested for gambling, was yester-
lay partially examined at tbe I oiice Court
nd the case postponed for further hearing,
The defendant aubpo-naed the fat woman as
is witness, and after considerable difficulty
was ushered into tbe witness-box to tes-
fy in bis behalf There being no charge
admittance, the audience was more
numerous than select. The w; net s, instead
helping- Perry, rather aided the prosecn
anil substantially revealed the modus
operandi of relieving those who visited the
show. The substance of tbe testimony was
this: tine portion of toe room where the
woman, wax figures, etc., were exhibited,
as set apart lor gambling, and t sweat
oth was used to gull the victims. Perry
as d-iorkerner to the concern, and availed
himself of the opportunity offered to notice
particularly how much money the p.icfcut
book of each person admitted contained. He
reported, according to iiielructiona. his dis
coveries in ibis respect to the proprietor, and
victim was luvariatily relieved accord

fully conversant with all that transpired in

The Excelsiors. "The Kxeel-ior Dra

two entertainments next week at Union Hall,
'hen they will assuredly receive from the
eitisens of Fremont a generot'S support. On

popular Irish drama of "Born to Good Luck,'
in which Mr. Cook, the illimitable delineator
of Irish character, will sustain the principal
part; the evening's entertainment to conclude
rith the Farce of "Family Jan." Ou Tues
day evening they repeat the drama and close
with tbe Farce of ' Tht Slack Statue." Good

Mrs. Mun bas consented to sing some choice

Revivals. We learn from Rev. Mr. Bul
ger, Presiding Elder of the U. B. Church in
this District, that a general awakening is in
progress throughout the cuunty. Under tbe
ministrations of Rev. Lang and Harbaugh
many. conversions have been made. The
meetings at Winter's Station resulted in the
conversion and accession to the Church of
one hundred and eighty-two persons: At a
meeting held four miles north-east of Fosto
ria in the German Reformed Chutcha class
of twenty-fiTe membeis was formed. Meet
ings are bow? held in Madison, township,
where twenty-fnar new members have been
received. Twenty-two were at the altar
Tuesday night far prayer.
The Goilectorsbip. The Commission
of Col. W. E. Haynes, Cjlleotor of Internal
Revenue for this District, expired on the
4th tnst. Under the provisions of the act
regulating the appointments by the Pres
ident, and which was passe 1 over the Pres
ident's veto ou Friday last, his official duties
ceased upon th? expiratioi of his Com
mission. The duties of the office now de
volve upon .Mr.. Charlos H. Krebs. Senior
Deputy, who becomes acting Collector nntil
Mr. Geo. J. Aiiders3n, the now appointee
rdcsiT33 his order of pjS4CS3iorj and final in
structions, which will probably be in a Tery
few days. . He his not yet named a deputy
for this county, but we understand that Mr.
Thoe. Ciapp will receive the appointment.
Runaway. Tbe first runaway worth
mentioning that has occurred in town since
sledding times, happened last Wednesday
forenoon, but fortunately resulted in no se
rious injury to man or lieast. A team of
horses attached to a light wagon or buggy,
with one man and a trunk as occupant?, took
fright and ran down the hill past the Cro
ghan House at a furious rate, spilling out
mm and trunk and breaking lose from the
vehicle when opposite the new block. The
man was knocked insensible, but revived
soon after being csrried into the Crogban
Houie, to find that he hnd sustained no se
rious injury; tbe trunk, however, was badly
damaged and the coulcnts considerably
straggled. The honos were caught after
"ey had crossed Ihe br.uge.
Firemen's Parade and Ball. The an
nual parade and ball uf Fkicjiont E.noim Co.
No. 1, came off last Monday, and was a finer
afftir than usual. Chief Engineer A. Young
and 8d Assistant J. D. Griffin were on hand
in their official capacity. The Foreman of
the eimpaoy, Lorenii Dick, and Assistants,
William Keiser and H, Gottron. and the
Captain of the Hose Cart, M. Free, together
ith tbe members, made a splendid showine,
Of 133 members, about 120 were in the pro
cession. The machines were in rood condi
tion, and the parade passed off as all such
affairs do when the part'eipants have tbeir
hearts in it, in lip-top style, notwithstanding
tbe bad state of the streets. The evening
wound op with a glorious time, in the wssy
of a dance and supper, at Fabing fc Heim's
new bail. Something like four hundred peo
ple rau-t have been present, and the receipts
weie largely in excess of any previous an
nual party. The supper was prepared and
contributed by the German Indies of the city,
and in every rcpect was a ciedit to tbeir
housewifely skill aud taste. The members
of the company and all others who were
present had a pleasant tin e.

among the breeders and owners of horses in
Northwestern Ohio. The institution has
been self-snstainiug, there having been po
assessment made upon the stockholders.
The unparak'lled success of this institution is
probably owing to the fine business qualifi-

exhibition grounds. On account of nearly
the counties within the district having
recently organized similar institutions, this
Association, at the meeting held in Clyde on

Unsurpassed Enterprise. It has been
subject of wonder amozg those engaged in
business education, and indeed among busi

Dr. Agar the celebrated healer hat been in

ment by curing the people without the use
medicine. Tbe Doctor has rooms at th
Kessler Hotel, where he is daily v sited by
crowds of persons of both sexes and all ages
seeking relief and cure lor their ills. He
cordially invites the pior or those not able
pay to come and be healed without money
and without price. This surely is a very
generous offer. We advise all who are sick or
ailing with any disease or eomplaint to give
the Doctor a call immediately. He will re
main during the month of March. . lOtf

No Medicine Used. Dr. Agar, pnoii
eal Physician, heals the sick by s system of
practical oppcrationt to effectual and pecu
liar that inveterate eases are often cured in a
few minute, without the nse of medicine.
The wocderfullnes of this system of healing
consists in its simple, natural, instantaneous
effectiveness and general adaptability tea
great variety of diseases. Chronic diseases
cured and acute pain relieved in a few min
utes. The lame . walk, the blind see, the
deaf hear. Scores of thousands of persons
hsve been eared or greatly relieved, and
what is still more strange and wonderful,
diseases heretofore considered incurable,
such as Ovarian Tumors, Falling of the
Womb, Fever-Sores, or sore legs of twenty
years standing, are frequently cared in ooe
operation. Let it be borne in mind, how
ever, that o supernatural power ia claimed
in the performance of these seemingly mir
aculous cures. There have been men in all
ages who have had the same power over die
eases of the body and mind. Some call it
the gift of healing, or curing by the faying
on of handt.
