Stamps on Teachers' Csrtlfica'ea The Commissioner of Internal Revenue has decided that teachers' certificates do not re quire a United States revenue stamp. Sec tion 154 of the Excise Act, passed March 26 1667, is as follows : All official instru tnenls, documents and papers issued by the officers of any State, county, town or other municipal corporation, given in the exercise of their official capacity, are exempt. The "Reecue" Hook t Ladder Company held a meeting on last Friday evening and elected the follow ing officers to fill vacancies : A. F. Gal- LASHta, Foreman; Chas. W. ' The season for kil ling almost every description of game expir ed on the first of Febuary, and the laws reg ulating the matter continue in forca un til the first of October. Every true sports man, as well as every humane man is inter ested having the provisions of the law en forced. " Fire In BallTills.-The house or Mr. Prtua Stabl, ia Ballville township, narrow ly escaped total destruction by fire on Wed nesday of last week. -. About neon of that day the house was di: covered to be on fire by a young lady visitor, who gave the alarm. Fortunately, Mr. Stavl wss nar at hand, and after ascertaining that the fire was In a partition wall, soon cut into it, when the flame, finding vent, biased up tremendously. A good supply of water was daubed on, and tbe fire subdued. Five minutes more and the house could not have been saved. As it in, we learn that the damage will not exceed $100. Insured in the Ohio Farmers. A Problem for City Tax Payers. If it takes Tour men two days and a half to lay a pavement 130 feet long, how many daya ought it to lake sei'es men to build a similar pavement only 100 feet long? Faxo Faring and three men built 130 feet of paving over the sewer on State Street in two daya and a half. Tbe City Street Commissioner (Dem ocrat) with SEVEN mea took FIVE day;, to build only one hundred fdet of precisely the same kind of pavement, on Front Street. This is another specimen of the economy of our Democratic City Government. Then, too, the laborers employed by the City re ceived, each, two shillings a day more than those employed by Mr. Fabisu.. .' Churohof the ColoredPeople. Some time ago the Colored Christians of this place organized a religions, society known as the " Colored Christian Church," and took steps toward erecting a house of worship on the east side of the river. Of the many liberal subscriptions enough was collected to put np the frame work of the building, but un fortunately this blew down on that windy Thursday, the dsy of the R. R. accident, 'and some difficulty having arisen among the "members the organisation was discontinued and the property, land, 1c, legally transfer red to ' tbe .African Methodist Episcopal Church, of which A.'.Rztkls, T. G. Ressx and D. Bowsxit are ' tbe Trustees. The African M. E. church are now making ef forts to complete the building, and it is hoped that tbe subscribers to the old fund will transfer their subscriptions to the-new, as but one church will be built, in the success of which the colored people sre all interested and united. Tin Weddings. The great events of the week, in the social circles of Fremont were the Tin Weddings of Mr. & Mrs. Chas. Kskbs, on Saturday evening, and of Dr. t Mrs. J. W. Faiuhs on Monday evening last. The " affairs " were numerously attended by the friends of the " happy couples," all of whom presented their offerings in the shape of tin-ware. The presents comprised almost every imaginable article of use or ornament thst wag ever made of any material, and being all of tin were objects of wonder as well as ornament. Oil paintings on tin with tin frames, hats, bonnets fully trimmed with tin ribbons and bows and furbelows, cake baskets, watches and chains, csrving knives and forks, castors, comb, and other orna mental and necessary utensils were piled in profusion on the tables snd formed the center of attraction at both resideuces.
