The ••• • JL • • Pennsylvania Steel Company STEELTON, PA. Manufacturers Heavy Fo TUESDAY EVENING, | JOHN BLACK AND SON'S HAVE HUn/T STURDY BUSINESS IX ! TWO YEARS There is a business in Harrisburg of which the general public hears but j little but at the same time, one of • the busiest businesses of its sort in j the State. It is one that plays a big ' : pari in the building up of the city, in | the erection of its buildings, Its parks I and its roadways. The business re | ferred to is that of John Black and Sons, owners and proprietors of the | Harrisburg Stone Works. Seventeenth and Mulberry streets. Crushed stone, building stone and foundation cellar | stone are the products of this com pany, who, with their complement of 1 j hi'.ge five and two-ton motor trucks have a hauling and delivery capacity of eighty to ninety ions each work- ! ing day. In addition to hauling their i [own product to the proposed site for j which the stone is intended, this com- j | pany also makes a specialty of haul inf, bricks, sand, and all kinds of j building material for individuals. Mr. ! Black and Sons began the business of hauling building materials a little more than two years ago and because . of their constant attention to business, j the excellency of the services render ed, the fact that they are willing to keep their delivery service working , both day and night when necessity demands, have aJI tended to give the business a good solid foundation upon which foundation has rapidly been 1 added order after order until the I present time when .the business ranks high among those of the State's Cap ital City.—Advt. YOU NEVER HEAR "HERE'S SOME- ! THING JUST AS GOOD" AT THE I EBY DRUG STORES Plight years ago, over in the town of New Cumberland, was founded what ; is to-day one of the leading businesses 1 of its own particular line, located any ; where in the capitol district. It is ' that of the Eby Chemical Company j who conducts a retail drug business at j 23 South Fourth street. Harrisburg. | as well as the original store in New j i Cumberland. The Eby Chemical Com- i pany is a drug manufacturing con- ' cern, selling direct to the physician, , the pharmacist, and the consumer himself. To such a great extent has this concern prospered that they now i employ salesmen who cover the entire | State of Pennsylvania, with a complete line of general pharmftceutiele goods. Since the death of Mr. Eby, the 1 founder of the business in the early i , part of last April, the business has I been conducted by the Eby estate, un-. der the personal management of Ben jamin Snyder whose capable guidance I the concern has met with unusual ' success. The policy of the Eby stores j has been to avoid selling the customer j "Something Just as Good." It has ; been their endeavor to carry a com- ! plete line of good." upon which there I might be the slightest demand, so that [ it would not be necessary to offer sub- i stitutionß To this policy Is attributed: much of their success, for a patron i could feel sure at all times of getting 1 what was asked for and not "some thing just as good." Perhaps that is; why. in the past year alone, business in the Eby stores has been doubled | over that of the previous year.—Adv. YEW SPORTING GOODS DEPARTMENT ADDED Sportsmen of Harrisburg and vicinity will be glad to hear that the firm of Cohen & Son, located at 431 Market j street, have opened a new department especially for sporting goods under the i management of Alexander Kasanar, with the most complete stock of sup plies for the sportsman In this vicinity. I The firm of Cohen & Son has been in business in Harrisburg over twenty- | five years and is well known all over Central Pennsylvania. The new department will be run un- | j der the most solid business principles' and the magnitude and variety of ! •sportmen's supplies to be found in j st»ck will not be found at any other i store of its kind in this vicinity or out- ! side of the larger cities. The stock already consists of the | latest and best lines of guns, revolvers, ammunition, bicycles, fishing tackle of every and description, as well as a most complete stock of baseball and ; tennis supplies. Anything that could j ! be found in the sporting goods de partments in larger cities can now be j 1 bought at this store and at popular ! j prices. In the early morning hours the de ! livery trucks and wagons of Atticks ; and Atticks leave the bakery on their j i trip around the city, supplying homes, : : reftaurants and hotels with the finest pies and cakes that years and years ,of experience can produce. Realizing at the outset of their career, the really great demand for 1 j cakes and pies, homemade in every 1 sense of the word, liut made with the skill of experienced hands, the two I members comprising the firm, George M, and J. In addition to the homes and busi ness places supplied, this firm also ! conducts a stall in the Broad Street j Markethouse, where each market i day and evening may be obtained the toothsome product of these exper | ienced bakers of good things to eat. GOHIJ AND BRUAW, MAKERS OF ROTARY CLiEANSER, ARE MAS- ! I TER PAINTERS Painting things, not only red, but e\ery conceivable color and shade— i no Job too large for their capacity and none too small for their attention—| | thai may be truthfully said of Gohl & | Bruaw. master painters at 310 Straw- j j berry avenue. Taking contracts where : | 10t; men are required to apply 65,000 , pounds of graphite and 56 barrels of oil. or sending one man to touch | things up a bit with a pint of paint; (Covering bridges and powerhouses with plain but. serviceable colors to resist the elements, and tinting and gilding the interior of the finest homes in the city. These are an within the' scope of work accomplished by this i firm of paint contractors. John P. Gohl began house painting! in 1881 and conducted the business I personally, doing all of the fence and 'billboard advertising in this section in j | those days, including the publicity: work for "The T.ast Days of Pompeii" | and "Lihretta," spectacular produc tions. In 1901 Gohl's Paint Supply Company was organized for the pur i pose of selling paint supplies. In j 1 904 Harry Bruaw was taken into j partnership under the name of Gohl <Sr Bruaw. Mr. Bruaw having come to Harrisburg from York Haven and learned his trade with his uncle, I I Mathias G. Baker. Some conception of the magnitude of the work accomplished by this firm j j is possible when one reviews a partial i i list of the jobs completed by them. 1 The largest painting contract executed i Iby this firm was when painting the longe3t and heaviest steel bridge in the I United States for the Pennsylvania; Hailroad, crossing the Susquehanna I riyei between Columbia and Wrights i vlile. This Job required the services of 105 men; 65,000 pounds of graphite were used and 56 barrels of oil. AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHERS Say: "If Kcpplc Can't Get Good Re sults for Vou, llie Fault's With Yourself" To get good results with the films of j amateur photographers calls upon an unusual degree of carefulness in the processes of developing.
