Reorganization of South eastern at Newnan a Marked Success / ; Anniston, March 1.—(Special.)—Larry 'ftrown, who represented Anniston and Gadsden at ^he meeting at Newnan, ifGu., today returned home, and says the reorganization of the Southeastern league seems assured. The league will he made up of teams from Anniston, Gadsden, Talladega, Opelika, Newnan and LaUrange. The playing season starts May G and ends on Labor Day. A tentative schedule will be announced later. The salary limit was fixed at $SuO. and 12 players will be the allotment to the team. W. J. Boykin of Gadsden was elected president, W. A. Holmes of LaGrange, vice president, and the election of a secretary was postponed. i I Chattanoga, March 1.—(Special.) Practices were formally begun here to day l>y Manager Elberfield. Other information In the book indicates for It a place of unusual value in the mineral references of this state. HIGH SCHOOL FIVE DID GREAT WORK DURING SEASON Local School Athletes End Good Basketball Schedule. Won the State Prep. Championship The basket ball season of the Birming ham High school was brought to a splen did close last Thursday, when the Bir mingham High school five met Ensley. Their record proves conclusively that their title is clear to the Prep champion ship of Alabama. Considering the disad vantages and set-backs suffered by the Birmingham High school team their rec ord is a marvelous one indeed. And the lion share of credit Is due to Coach Courleux. For it was due to his energetic work and efficient coaching that the team pulled through the mire of the earlier part of the season. At the start there was a dismal outlook for the season. Only two regulars were left of tho old team, and alj the other candidates were inexperienced men. To add to this, Captain Trible and Gillam, two men counted on as fixtures, quit school, leaving the team in a lurch great er than before. So with only one veteran to build the team around, -Coach Cour leux set to work to mold a championship five. The season opened with an overwhelm ing defeat at the hands of Bessemer. But the victory over the Interstate Power company team soon followed, and from then ori High made one steady and grand inarch to the Prep championship. Several old scores were wiped out. Birmingham High wiped out a last year's j defeat from Auburn with Interest, too. I Selma Y. M. C. A. was the next to be! evened up with. The team played 14 games, winning ten j and losing four. Both games were well attended and furnished sport lovers excellent basket ball exhibitions. The pass work of the Shelby county teams featured both con tests.
