Headstones For Mountain Creek Veterans Full List of Men Who Have Died at Soldiers’ Home Since It Was Established, Giving Date, Age, Confederate Company and Place of Burial r ~ BY W. P. THOMPSON J ' * OUNTAIN CREEK, April 19.— (Special.)—A long neglected duty to properly place head slopes over the graves of the aged Con federates who have died at the Ala bama Confederate Soldiers’ Home, near here, was today attended to. Eighty five new and properly lettered head mil footstones arrived last week from tho parties to whom the contract had been let. Capt. J. M. Simpson, the com mandant of the home, prepared a care ful list of the name of the deceased, company and regiment, age, etc., and forwarded the same to the stone cut ters. The stones are full size and made from A-l Alabama white marble. Formerly Miss Addle Beaumont of Union Springs, had attended to solic iting money and furnished about 30 stones which were In place several years ago, for all that had died here up to that lime. The Daughters of the Confederacy had their attention called to the fact that 85 more headstones were needed and these splendid women went to ■work and furnished the money, which amounted to ney 8500, to supply the stones needed.
