The Realty Trust Company has been in business nearly three years, and has made good progress, its paid capital being almost five hundred thousand dollars. The business of the company has been confined largely to the buying of purchase money paper, secured by mortgages on real estate. \ A great many homes have been sold in Birmingham on monthly or annual payments, bearing interest at from six to eight per cent. The monthly payment paper is not a desirable investment for the average individual, because collec tions must be allowed to accumulate for a year or more, before they aggre gate enough for re-investment. A cor poration, however, handlitig a consid erable volume of paper is in position to re-invest monthly, as funds come to hand. The Realty Trust Company has been able to buy purchase money paper, at a discount which causes it to yield more than eight per cent per annum, and has found it a safe busi ness. Of course, if we were making direct loans upon property, we could not earn so good a percentage as by buying paper which others have taken. The preferred shares of the company have preference over its two hundred thousand dollars of common stock/which constitutes a very material assurance of the payment of dividends upon the pre ferred. The officers and directors of this company hold only the common stock. Seeing that the preferred shares have preference oyer the common as to dividends, it will be readily understood that these shares must be doubly safe, in order that our holding may be secure. 'A There are few investments that pay as good net returns as this stock, or that are as safe; and as a precaution against a material re duction in income on its capital, the company reserves the right to re tire the preferred stock at any time at par. It is not likely, how ever, that this will be done for some years to come, and it may never be done. This stock pays a fixed dividend of eight per cent_one half in January and one-half in July of each year, and it can be pur chased at one hundred dollars a share. Realty Trust Company John H. Frye, President Capital $470,000.00^ Birmingham, Alabama llldn Wanted Sealed bfds will be received by the court of county commissioners of Walker coun ty, Alabama, for the construction of a jail building. Plans can be obtained from J. W. Shepherd, Jasper, Ala., or the ar chitects, Smith & Carter, Montgomery, Ala. Bids on building and on furnishing jail steel will be taken separately; same party can bid on both, but must put in separ ate bids. A certified check for $500 shall accompany all bids as a guarantee that successful bidder will enter into contract and make bond in the sum of $15,000, with in 15 days after his contract is awarded to him, said $500 to be forfeited to the court of county commissioners of Wal ker county, Alabama, in case of failure to enter into contract or make bond. All bids must be sent to J. W. Shep herd, probate judge of Walker county, Alabama, and must be In his hands by 12 m. May 12, 1913.
