SMITH, ^Mortgagee. i,. .I Mt- y 'tf' ISSUE ELECTION IN . _ I Jasper, July 8.—Special.)—The Walker county road bond issue election which will be held Monday, July 13, in which the citizens of the county will decide whether the court of county commissioners will issue bonds for $250,000 to build and Im prove the public roads Is the- topic of general Interest throughout this county. An all day mass meeting of citizens representing the various sections of the county was held In Jasper yesterday and nearly every phase of the issue was han dled by several speakers. But little op position to the bond Issue was developed. T. L. Long of Jasper, was the leader of the opposition fight, while his brother, P. M. Long of Cordova, was a leader in the mass meeting in favor of the issue. Other prominent citizens favoring the is sue were: J. H Bankhead. Jr., W. C. J Davis, A. B Aldrich of Drifton, who was chairman of the meeting, J. A. Hug- < gins of Oakman, and other speakers. J The problem which the advocates of the M bond issue have to face is the matter of ¥ distributing the money. It was for that f purpose the meeting was called yester day. It Is believedl the following plan , V of distributing the money will cause the citizens of the county to vote for the is- ' l sue and will result in road improvement * in every section of the county. Richardson of fered the following plan which was ap proved by the citizens assembled yester day: 1 The amount of the bond issue is to be $250,000. 2. No more than $50,000 a year shall be spfnt for road woik ifld bonds shall only be issued as tnfc money is needed. 3. The money snail be distributed as nearly equal as practicable among the four commissioner’s districts in propor tion to the mileage of public roads In each district, with.,a guarantee that at least one public r6h.d shall be graded f and improved In ea'h precinct in the » I county. , ' 4 The class of roads to be built shall be graded dirt roads. 5. An engineer shall be employed who shall make plans and specifications, to gether with a profile, showing the quan tiles to be moved in the building of each road thus profiled. 6. Ail work shall be done by contract let to the lowest responsible bidder, af ter advertising in a newspaper in Walker > county, and the Manufacturers’ Record for 30 days before let*ing said contract.
