I DEATH SENTENCE Carter and Jones Sentenced to Die December 18—Ap peal to Supreme Court |l Sentence of death was pronounced on I-on Carter and Sid Jones In the criminal court yesterday by Judge W. E. Fort, who fixed December 18 as the date of execution. Both negroes gave jij notice of appeal to the supreme court ■ and the sentence was suspended pend «] ing Its action In the case. H * The negroes showed no emotion when the dread sentence was pronounced but a new trial was asked for jn their cases. Judge Fort overruled the motion for a new trial. They were tried and convicted in the criminal court last week. Carter was charged w-ith the murder of his wife at Newcastle; Jones charged with killing a fellow convict at Banner mines. He was serving a life sentence for murder when the crime was committed. Grand Jury for the September term made a partial report yesterday morn ing before Judge W. E. The state live stock san itary board will meet here Monday. Three Burned to Death Siloam Springs, Ark., November 7. Oliver Hathaway, aged 7fl, and James and Stella McConnell, children, were burned to death when fire, believed to have been of incendiary origin, de stroyed the home of Charles McCon nell near here today.
