Man Hun Dunn liy street tar. l-'nrmers Protest U-altut "W heel Tax” v Gadsden, June 4J7.—(Special.)—At a meeting of the hoard id directors of the Etowah County Farmers' Union Ware house company Saturday afternoon, plans were outlined for extending the storage yard and warehouse and building a cot ton compress. Resolutions were also passed calling upon the Dwight Cotton Mills at Alabama City to enter the open market for cotton and not restrict their buying to one or two firms. It was stated hy the directors that an effort will be made to give Gadsden a better cotton market this fall. For several years farmers In the vicinity of Gadsden have complained that they ouuld get more money for their cotton In the smaller towns than In Gadsden. The warehouse directors charge that local buyers have had a monopoly and have not been of fering the market prioe and that they have "grown rich" as a result. The annual picnic of the First Raptisr church and I he First Methodist church will be held at East Lake on July a, ac cording to an announcement made by a committee appointed hy the Sunday schools to select a time and place. The picnic Is usually held In June, but It was postponed until the saloons closed in Birmingham. Phillips Lee, residing near Reeds Mill, accidentally stepped in front of a street car on Broad street Saturday morning and was run down. He caught hold of a brake chain and held on, preventing be ing run over hy the wheels.
