Miss Mary B. Harrison, member of
family not only locally prominent, bi
prominent in the history of the Confe*
eracy and the south generally, died *
her home, 307 North Seventh street, tc
day from Bright’s disease. She was tt
daughter of the late Gen. James T. Ha
rison, who was selected to defend Jeffej
son Davis, President of the Southern Coi
federacy, when, after his long incarceri
tion at Fortress Monroe, he was arraign*
in the federal court at Richmond on tt
charge of treason.
Her brother-in-law, the late Gen. St<
phen D. Dee, served both as command*
in chief of the United Confederate ve
erans, and as one of the commissionei
of the national park at Vicksburg, whi
ner nepnew, Blewett Dee, is now geners
counsel for the Illinois Central railroa*
with headquarters in Chicago.
Miss Harrison, who was about 60 yeai
of age, took an active interest in Cor
federate matters, and had for many yeai
been, president of the Stephen D. L*
chapter, United Daughters of the Coil
federacy. ;
The funeral will he held at the famil
residence at 3:30 o’clock tomorrow afte
noon, being followed by interment r
