Mr. Cage was well and favorably known to a great many citizens of Jackson, having been raised in the neighboring town of Can ton, and the news of his death at the hands of a burglar and assassin came as a great shock. A committee of lawyers, D. C. Bram lette of Woodville, Lamar F. Easterling of Jackson and R. N. Sommerville of Cleveland, met at the capitol today for the purpose of drafting a bill to be sub mitted to the legislature in January calling for a new code of the laws of the state, the present code having been adopted 10 years ago, and since which time many puzzling amendments have been ordered. This committee was ap pointed by R. B. Campbell of Green ville, president of the Mississippi Bar association. It is given out at penitentiary head quarters that Superintendent O’Keefe will mak.e just as creditable an ex hibit at the state fair as possible, and that he will also carry it to the Merid ian fair if wanted. This display of the products of the convict farms has al ways been one of the strongest attrac tions at the state fair, and will bo again. Few people realize the immensi ty of the state’s farming operations, and know nothing of the extent to which diversification has been pur sued by the management. The live stock from the Rankin and Oakley farms, such as fine stallions, Jacks, brood mares, horse and mule colts, hogs, beef and dairy cattle, are seen by thousands and is an encouragement for the indi vidual farmer. MARION Marion, October 12.—(Special.)—Experts from the agricultural extension bureau discussed methods of combating the boll weevil here today. A representative gathering of farmers, white and colored, were eager to learn more about diversifi cation as well as how they may grow some cotton under the present weevil condition. !
