Put Your Rent Receipts Into a Home and Be a Real Citizen UP BY GOVERNMENT Local Realtors Plan to Liven Up Building Movement. No Decline in Cost of Material Originating: in Birmingham, the "Own You# Own Home" movement has spread throughout the country and the federal government has now taken the matter up. Through the labor and other depart ments of the government the w'orking men and others are urged to buy homes, rot only as a means of helping to quicken the revival of building activities, but be cause the home owner is more independ ent and usually a more useful citizen than the one who does not own his home. At a luncheon held a fewr days ago, attended by over 100 business men. it was unanimously decided to put on a cam paign in Birmingham for the purpose of furthering the "Own Your Own Home" movement here. A fund of $7500 has been pledged by various lines of business which is to be used in spreading the propaganda, and an early week in June has been decided, upon as the time for the campaign to be made. BUILDING OPERATIONS Building operations continue slack, property owners hesitating to put up houses at present high prices, but it is (he impression among real estate men that this condition will undergo a change before very long. Not only is there no prospect of an early decline in the cost of material and labor, but, to the contrary, lumber is said :o have actually advanced a dollar or two within the last two weeks. Reports of lumber manufacturers associations showr that* the cut at present is under rather than over the actual demand, the latest available information being to the effect that orders placed with mill men exceed the cut by a considerable percen ts ge.
