JSTASHYILLE: FRIDAY MORNING, NOVEMBER 18, 1853. One of the pre ttiest pieces of machinery ever seen in"NashvilIe is the steam engine manufactured for us by the Nashville Manufacturing Company, and which propels our power presses. This engine is placed in the basement of the building. Immedi ately over it, on the first story, are placed ourbeau tiful power praises, in charge of Sir. G. Y. Jonx 8T0S, the best pressman who ha3 ever been employ ed in Nashville. On the first story, also, are our counting-room and a room where wo are happy at all times to see our business friends. The second story of the building is entirely oc cupied by our book and job printing office. Tho 1 -three large rooms in this story arc filled with the largest and best assortment of job printing materials ever gathered under one roof in the Southwest. Our varieties of type are almost endless. Here, also, are our handpresse?, including a beautiful card press, capable of printing 1500 cards per hour. These rooms, as well as the general oversight of the whole office, 'are in charge of Capt. Glexk, a gentleman of great capacity and experience, and who, with his large corps of assistants, is turning out for our customers, with unequalled promptness, book and job work which we are not afraid to com- pare with the best Philadelphia work. In the third story, under the charge of P. G. "Warren, the types for our newspaper are set In this story, also, Laxodok & Co., have a room where they set the types for the Banner of Peace and the Pearl, the press work of which we do for them. "We also print for this firm the Sentinel, a temper ance paper. And in this story also, the editors have a corner room, higli above the dust and noise of the city, where they indite sound, wholesome, and radical democracy, and feel proud of possessing the largest and most complete printing office in the Southwest, and in publishing one of the best news papers to be found anywhere. THEATRE. The beautiful and affecting play of Jane Shore was well presented at the Adelphi last night Mrs. Parren sustained the principal character in a highly respectable manner. Mrs. F.'s voice is not good, but her conception of characters and general style of acting justly entitle her to rank high in her pro fession. To-night we have Kxowles' play of Love, and ""Wanted 1000 Milliners" a verv fine bilL T Errata. In the communication in yesterday's paper on the subject of the State Penitentiary, oue or two important errors occurred. The appropria tion required at the present time should have been put down at $20,000, instead of $2,000. In one of the concluding paragraphs itis stated that "there are persons who would fain remove the Penitentiary from the State," Izc For remove read lease, Recorder's Court Nov. 1G. Cotton is still held at irregular figures. We heard of but one sale yesterday, and that at $3 So. Our readers will bear in mind that our present quotations are lor sales to fill orders, and not on sjieculation. From a letter, dated New Orleans the 12th, we learn that the present crop of cotton will fall short of that of last rear. The receipts at all the ports amount to 1 2 f,S09 bales against 87,467 bales same time last year. Coiton. Our semi-weekly report closed upon a heavy market, but on Wednesday buyers came forward more treely tlian at any previous period of the season, and some 10,000 bales were disposed of without anv material change in prices, though with rather more steadiness and Unnness for the grades ranging from Middling to Middling Fair, which were the descriptions most in request On Thurs day the enquiry was renewed to a fair extent, and (he sales reached about 5300 bales. There was also a fair demand yesterdav, and some 5000 bales changed Iiands: making a total for the past three days of 20,MH bales, and for the week of SO.tioO bales, taken for England, France, Spain the Continent and the North. Tho demand lias run mainly upon what are termed clfin Cottons, classing trom Strict Middling to Middling Fair, and for these de scriptions the market is firmer, owing to their comparative scarcity; butthe business of the last few days has also in cluded some low lists, and we are enabled to resume quota tions, lor Inferior and Ordinary qualities, which for some time past have been without any fixed market value, from the entireabsenceof demand fortbem. It will beseenthat the figuresrange unusually low, as compared with the bet ter descriptions. NEW-ORLEANS CLASSIFICATION, (ASSIMlLATlM! TO HUT OF UVlltPOOL.) The transaction which we noticed in our last week's issue i dieted the market very materially, and the holders of the present stock, large as "it is, maintain a posi tion of great firmness in regard to prices, and it is now dif ficult to find any lots at our inside figures, especially of the .Refused descriptions. Buyers, however, appear to have paused in their operations, and the entire sales of the week, ut least so far as made public, barely reach 800 hhds., the prices for which were withheld, and we repeat our previous quotations until further operations shall indicate marked changes : Lrs Factory cents.. 5) a 5f " Planters' 5f a 6 I.EAr Inferior " a fH Fa r a C " Fine 7 a 74 " Choice Selections a it The recent transactions, to which we have alluded, have been wholly in the heavy descriptions of Tobacco, the pro duct of Mason county having received no attention from purchasers.
