A iiannen General Conference in Session Curi ous Oracular Deliverance liy Brigham Young A Discussion upon Polygamy and tho Kill ing of Brassfield. The Dttcret Xem, (Utah,) of April 12, oontairwa report of the Mormon Conference lately held in that city. On Saturday, April 7, President !righam Young made the fol lowing addreaf, which it will be hccii relates plainly to the recent murder of Mr. 1 train "field, already noticed in our columns. Itrig ham Young said : It will give me great pleimire to speak a few words to the people, and I shrill be hap py if I can make myself heard by this vast assemblage of Saint. Much has lcen Raid by our brethren since the commencement of our two days' meeting, and during the Conference, with regard to the social life of the Latter-day Saint; an,i all that has been Faid is in conJvty with that endless variety which wcf jn all the "iirrklZ0" "P"8 t,,cm ToA S fi;35r '-t. wfc circumstances or in (caching doctrine. The doctrines which we have embraced are exceedingly dear to tins faithful believer, and I may also say that doctrines, how erroneous soever they may be, are as sacred to the person who believes them as our doctrines arc to u. Our faith and our acts are known to each other, and also to the world, although thev are held forth by many in an unfair light. However, when an untruth is told against the Latter-day Saints, a conviction that it is untrue comes to every person who hears it, and tiie spirit of Christ, that cnlightcneth very man that comcth into the world, tOBcheth the children of men true principles. 1 will now give you, in short, my opinion with regard to plural marriage. It is of (Sod, and He has revealed from the heavens, and mode it obligate. y upon the Saints in the last days. I am as much a believer in plural marriage as any of my brethren who have spoken. It is embraced in the faith in the Latter-day Saints, and practiced by ninny of them. ' If I have a wife who wishes to leave me, let her make it known to me and she is as free to go from me as slices to stav with me. This my doctrine Every wife 1 may poesss is as free as the air; "if thev ehooc to stay with me they can stay ; if tViey wish to leave me, they arc equally as free; but they must not intrude upon their mcm covenants, nor stiller others to intrude upon them. Itut otherwise from this, they are as free to go as they are to stay; they can go to the East, or to the West, to the North or to the South. They arc as free to go, if they so wish, as they are to drink tho water of City Creek ; but if they violate their covenants, the curse of (Sod wiU rest upon our rights in our domestic relations, wo menu them to sutler the penalty. Toast any person to be a Latter-day Saint, unhMs'he wishes to be, is a thing I never do. I teach the people the truth; thoy that receive it in the love of it, will abide in it; they have the same lilcrty to reject it that they have to receive it. It is not required of me to make people lelieve the truth, whether they will or not. It is obligatory uiKtn me to teil them the truth, to teach them correct doctrine, and leave them to take their cnoice, whether they re ceive it and live by it, and be saved, or re ject it and be damned. Iwill now take the liberty of making :i dtatciiient to this congregation, and to this community to those who are Saints and to thoe who are not Saints to the Jew and the Creek to the Christian and the iSen lile, the old, middle-aged, the youth and children in regard to the circumstance which has occurred here in our city within a few day past. The question is asked by thousands, no doubt, "Is this according to lirotlier Itrigham's counsel? Is this done by counsel, and does lirothcr Itrigham justi fy such things?" Whether I justify that act or not is not the property of any other per son living, it is my own. "I'.rother itrigham, did you counsel any such thing as killing Mr. lirass field?" I did not. I know no more about it than you do. That which has transpired I have liicrclv heird, and that which instigated the killing of that man is not known to me. "SiiiiiMise -i man should enter your house and decoy away from you a wife of yours, -1.nt u-milil viin do under the circumstance?" I would lay judgment to the line and righteousness to the plummet, so help me ill 1 khv that for iiivkcK and not for an other. 1 am for defending the truth of Cod ami tin' iinlinnnccs of His house. 1 have PiilUied to be His servant, and a co-worker and fellow-laborer with Him, and with my i-LIpi- brother. .lesus Christ, and to sustain it;.
