V, A. ii. Cu. . . item Old Father Time will have to take little quick step Saturday night, March 30. to cover the chasm of one hour and go forward In his movements to catch up with all the old clocks and watches America. There are plenty of bells in town fire bells, churchbells and other kinds of bells but there are only two street clocks left In Chattanooga, and It Is "by these two clocks that the Chattanoogans going to and from their work day by day set their watches. One of these clocks Is located In front of Fischer Bros, at the corner of Eighth and Market streets, and has been on duty now for something like forty years When this old clock reaches the hour of midnight on March 80 it will be moved forward one hour in accordance with the daylight saving movement, and Easter morning of 1918 will be announced one hour ahead of Itself. In other words when the policeman makes his hourly round up and down Market street, when he passes Fischers' clock at 13 o'clock and goes to the next corner to open the little telephone box and make his report he will look up at the clock at Ninth and Market, In front of the Saul Jewelry store, and see that It Isn't 11 o'clock at all. but 1 o'clock. Promptly at midnight, when the or chestras at the different ballrooms are playing "Home, Sweet Home," these two street clocks will be changed. Someone will be designated to stay downtown little hit later on Saturday night for the special purpose of arranging for an ex tra hour of daylight the next morning. The night watchmen, or perhaps some of the employes of these stores, will be des Ignated to move the Chattanooga time. up one hour. They will be Instructed to climb the ladder when the hands reach 12 and move them around, to 1. Just suppose a man shduld be standing on the atreet corner watting for a car a few nilmitea before 12 o'clock, and hla bat should blow off and start rolling down Market street, and he started after It and recovered his hat several minutes later. He wslks back to the corner and (in the meantime the man has been up the ladder and changed the clock) finds that it tortk him an hour to recover his hat. "Well," he would say, "I guess I'll have to wait right here for the owl car which usually goes out of the street car barn at 1:50." Again, suppose a young man who has taken his beat girl to a dance and prom ised her mother that they would be home a little after 12, should leave the ballroom floor promptly at 13 o'clock with his fair lady, and as they pass down Market street In sn automobile, ha glances up at the "old standby" and flnds he-Is taking his beat girl home an hour later than he should. Everybody must accept the time on the SYRUP OF FIGS F0RCR0SS,SICK FEVERISH CHILD Look, Mother I Is tongue coated, breath hot and stomach sour? Harmless "fruit laxative" best to clean tender liver and bowels. D " f It must be a bit disconcerting for a 19-year-old bride to have a 17-year-old young lady call her "Mother!" Thl Is the relationship Into which Mrs. R. A. McDermld, an American girl, stepped when she became the wife of a wealthy Vladivostok merchant. Now she's come to the United States to get acquainted with her daughter, who Is attending school at Lincoln, Neb., as well as her two sons, 15 and 13, who are at Co lumbus, O. Mothers can rest ensy, after giving "California Syrup of Figs," because in a few hours all the clogtred-iip waste, sour bilo, and fermenting food gontly moves out of the bowels, and you have a well, playful child again. Children simply will, not take the time from piny to empty their bowels, and they become tightly parked, Irver get el tig- gltth and stomach disordered. When cross, feverish, restless, aee If tongue Is conted, then give this de IIcIouh "fruit laxative." Children love it, and it ennuot cause Injury. No difference what nils your little one If full of cold, or a sore throat, riuu-rhwa. Htoinnch ache, bad breathe, remember, a gentle "inside clemming" should al ways be the first treatment given. However, there is one thins; that won't be late Easter Sunday, and that is the Goddess of the Morn. She will get up usual, but will be received by the people of America an hour earlier. Those who have been used to getting up late on Sunday morning will get up an hdur earlier, and some of the pretty maiden who have been unable to set reedy In time for Sunday school may have an opportunity to get to church on time. One of the greatest things that will be derived from the new measure Is that It will give the business men who go home at this sesaon of the year and work In their gardens before supper an hour more work. Instead of going home at 6 he will go home at fi, and will work from 6 to 7 In his garden. The house wife will have breakfast, dinner and supper an hour earlier. The Chattanooga Railway and Light company will not make any changes In the schedule of the running of the street cars Saturday night or Sunday morning. Cars that leave Market street at 13 o'clock and are due back In town at 1 o'clock will get back at I o'clock, or I o clock by the old time. The owl car which usually goes out at 1 :30 wilt go out at 2:30 by the new time and will get puck m a : jo. By Monday morning. April t, the clocks all over the city will all be set up and the time will have been adjusted ai) over the ITnlted States. It baa been suggested that those having watches set their watches up one hour when they re tire Ssturday night, and when they wake up Sunday morning they will be correct.
