A largo 1 number of small otlices are to be tilled in tlie counties, ami according to the present outlook none will g-> begging; There is much dlsscntion among the Republicans all over the Seventh Con? gressional District, due principally to the fact that Federal pic nu.s riot been distributed according to tho wishes of some of the leaders, but tn>.- Demo? crats, as a rule, arc v.clL organised and harmonious. On account of an outbreak of small? pox In the northern section of Fred? erick county, all school children of Winchester have been vaccinated dur? ing tho past few days, not that there is any disease, in the city, but as a precautionary measure. All tlio doc? tors were kept busy day and night Friday anil Saturday innoculertlrig boys and girls with the virus which is supposed to prevent contagious dis? eases. What has become of Kennlston Kerns, member of a well known faintly Of Frederick county, is causing much alarm and worry among numbers <it his family. Joseph Chrismore, a young married man of Clarke county, who was re I cently sent to jail here for violating the Byrd liquor law and al.-o the local option ordinances, was arrested again Just as he left the Jail charged with selling liquor without a Untied PtaUs license. The rase was brought up before United States Commissioner A, J. A strange disease resembling dis? temper in a severe form, hut differing In some respects, has attacked a largo number of horses in the northern sec? tion of Frederick county?the snme section in which a number of small? pox cases have been found among peo? ple. On the farm of Alfred Wright, twenty head of horses are s!?-k with the disease, and William Adams lias eighteen horses similarly affected. Other farmers report their horses sick, and a number have died. Veterinary I surgeons who have he on called jn have not been able to determine the exact causo of the strange disease. At a meeting of the Miller Board held December 23, 1910. it was ordered that John G. Dew. Second Auditor and secretary of the board, refund the S7S0 commission paid him January 15, 190s, and <?> sell $700 of the city of Ey nth burg bonds to cover balance of $1,408.21 due the current account by the Investment account. As slated in Inst report. John G. Dew on May 4. 1909, advanced $1 SO to current account to meet R. B. Fulton's draft for current and other expenses; this amount, deducted from the $7S0. will leave $600 balance due from John G. Dew and $623.21 from sale of bonds to cover the balance due current, account of $1,228.21. It will be seen that the i per cent, com mlsslnn has riot been collected by John G. Dew since March 15. 1910. so tho emount now due him will about balance the account of John G. Dew. And the whole of said debt due from the principal to the income account would have been settled before January 1, 1911, but for the fact that the Rynchhurg bonds are nil of denomination of not less than $1,000. Tt being Impossible, therefore to sell $700. n fraction of a bond, tho settlement, had to be post? poned for further action of the Board.
