(Special to The Times-Dlspatch.l V\ Ins ton-Sal em, N. C, February 19.? It developed to-day that Moses Speaks, who killed his wife and son-in-law with a butcher knife In High Point yes? terday, is the man who has several times threatened the life of United States District Attorney A E. Holton, of thl3 city. Four weeks ago. while Mr. Holton was attending Federal court at Greens horo, Speaks called at his- home, just south of this city, ajid made demand that he should bo allowed to see the. district attorney. Mrs. Holton became frightened and telephoned to neighbors, who persuaded Speak to leave. Ho told different persons that Holton had pros? ecuted and convicted "several of my relatives, and one of them Is now serv? ing a term in tho Federal prison, and I will not die satisfied until 1 kill Mr. Holton." District Attorney Holton was advised of the threats made by Speaks, and a government detective accompanied htm nomo from Greensboro and remained horo a few days, assisting other offi? cers in an effort to locate Speaks; but they failed to find him. A week agco Speaks appeared at Mr. Holton's homo again and demanded food and lodg? ing. The district attorney was con? vinced that tho man was insane, and after giving him something to eai Speaks was directed to a room. Ha was locked up for the night, and next morning he was persuaded by neigh? bors to depart for home. In view of threats made by Speaks against the life of Mr. Holton. officers here are keeping clofo watch and making dili? gent efforts to locate him. Ill* Victim Die?. High Point, N". C, February 19.? Will Miller, who was fearfully slashed with the same knife with which Mose Speaks killed his wife Saturday, died this morning in a local hospital. Miller was the murderer's son-in-law. Speaks is still at large, having succeeded in eluding the posse of officers which Is scouring the country for him. Speaks undoubtedly committed the double crime while insane. He had recently been discharged from a Bos? ton nsylum for the feeble-minded. Children Cry FOR FLETCHER'S C A 3 T O R i A Auction, &al??. "~"~"By i:h7;"Valentino Auction "Co., ?
