April 7.?Tem? porary quarters for courthouse and clerk's ofhee have been secured In the old Willlamsburg Hotel building, and Clerk Gcddy is attending to public business. The regular April term of the Circuit Court will convene next Monday morning. The walls of the historic courthouse building, which was destroyed by tire early Thursday morning, are still standing, and are apparently in good condition. The County Hoard of Su? pervisors and tho City Council will meet at an early date to take some steps looking toward rebuilding. The structure is owned by the city and county, the former having a one-third Interest and the county two-thirds. Tt is more than likely that the old walls will he used nnd the building restored on the old site, but there are some who favor an entirely new building, a replica of the old structure: The fireproof vault resisted the flames, and the many valuable, county and city records are safe. However, a lot of old records of a purely his? torical nature, belonging to the old High Court of Chancery, were con? sumed In the fire. These records ex? tended hack to 17*r>, and were much sought after by genealogists. There was Insurance to the amount of $r,,nno on the building in the Phoenix of London.
