New York Stock Market l} New York, December 12.?Trading In stocks flattened out to-day in a way j which disappointed those who had I hoped that the market would become j broader und more active after yes-j terday's upturn. The market was en- | livened nt the opening by a vigorous buying movement which elevated prices generally. Hut It was only u flash In the pan. Within a few minutes the life died out of the trading and ' prices "began to fall back slowly to- j wards yesterday's closing level. At the ?nd of the day net changes in most cases consisted of gains of small fine- i tions. The largest advances were made ! by industrials, such ns American Loco-I motive and General iSlcctrlc. A notice- j able feature of the market was that it seemed to have s .strong undertone' throughout, in spile of the. fact that | the demand for stocks had fallen oft' abruptly. Yesterday's scries of events favorable to the bull side nttraeted ' some outside business overnight, and It presumably was these buying orders : which stimulated the market at the , outset. When these orders were filled trading tapered down to Slender pro? portions. Professional traders made little effort to extend the rise, and many of them availed themselves of the early upturn to take their profits. I News of the character which lnflu- | enres prices was as scarce to-day as It ; was plentiful yesterday. Another ad- j vance In the price of copper metal was : reported, some sales having been made ' at 13 n-l cents. The copper stocks were j less active, with American Smelting | the best gainer. The money market fta-day again showed the effect of the (wore fnvornble position of the banks Both time and call funds were easier, and the. demand for time money was considerably smaller. Call funds loaned us low as 2 1-2 per cent. The easier conditions lessened feats of a tight market at the end of the year. Canadian I'oclflc after a quick ad? vance at the opening of nearly 2 points, lost most of Its gain. The rise was due to yesterday's announcement of the forthcoming Issue of common stock. The bond market showed some slight lrrcgular'ty, but the undertone was firm. Total sales, par value, J3.073, 000. United States "bonds were unchanged en call. Total sales 381,000 shares.
