TALKS TWO HOURS Raps Peary, and Tells Audience How He Suffered in the Cold. For more than two hours last night, in tho City Auditorium, sometimes in a facetious vein and at other times handling his subject seriously. Or. 1-rodorek Albert Cook. some time hero of tho frozen North and claimant of polar honors, complotely convinced an audience of 1,000 souls that there real? ly Is, geographically, at least, a North Polo, and that lit McKinley doea pos? itively exist. Those Awful TVIghls. The North Pole wns tiio end to be achieved, and tho end was achieved. Or. Cook admits It himself. Hard? ships were endured, loved ones were loft behind, nights of four months' duration were sat out. with not a sin- ; glo poker game in sight, longing and waiting and wutrhing anil dreaming an ? hoping, merely for love of conn- , try. Can there be a nobler exhibition of patriotism? Can man do tnoro for love of flag? Are these deprivations nol enough to cause a thankful nn t|i i to bend a united knee before the returning conqueror? But what was his reward upon his return, after his almost coubo.Ioss nlghtU and days of vigil? What were , the emoluments which were heaped | upon his careworn brow? How was i his snow-distorted brain, grown weary . through a tramp which lasted from .inly 3. in07. until April 21, 190S. eased?! Were honors showered upon him? Severe on I'cnry. Really Dr. Cook. Instead of bringing forth his claims to bf. known as the discoverer of the North Pole, launched Into an arraignment of Re.ar-Admlral Peary. He told so many things which do not speak well for tho admiral, and told them so rapidly, that thio chron? icler, at least, was unable to record them all. Hut he said that ho-'could substantiate wh-it ho said and would do so with bin own money and with his lists, which he held up menacingly, If necessary.
