Chas. Fishbeck has been appointed as
delegate to the meeting of the grand
lodge of the I. O. O. F., in Lansing next
week.

Holmes attended the meeting of the
board of supervisors in Ithaca, the lirt

day, inquiring into the probability of
organizing an Art class in that city

returned from a visit with friends in tho
country last Thursday evening, she
found about thirty friends assembled at
her home to remind her that it was h
birthday. A very pleasant evening was
spent in playing progressive pedro, nft
which a delicious supper was served and
all retired having spent a most pleasant
evening together.

The Woman's Club will meet on Mon
day next with Mrs. L. S. Stevens. Sub
jects for study are found in "The His
tory of Painting," pages 12i to 1S, the
"Eclectics" and the "Xaturalists."

Patrick Henry Kelly of Mt. Pleasant
delivered a very interesting and highly
instructive address before the McKinley
and Hobart Club of this place Tuesday
evening. His arguments were clear
and convincing, carrying conviction at
every step.
Lake View is surely a republican
town, for there aro twenty-three Mc
Kinley and Hobart steamers afloat in
that place and only one Bryan. A
ladies auxiliary to the Republican Club
was formed with an enrollment of W0
members tho first night, while the Bryan
auxiliary, a few nights later, enrolled
the exceedingly large number of eleven.

The fall work on tho Wright farms is
progressing very nicely. Tim root
cellars will bo filled by the last of the
week ami over twenty thousand bushels
of roots will lie stored away. The silos
are all filled, two new ones having been
constructed to meet tho demands and a
large addition is lx ing mail! to all the
cribs in ordnr to take care of the im
mense com crops. The buyers are al
ready gathering up large supplies of
stock and the several overseers are l
ginning to prepare for the cold of win-
ter.

John Stewart left three splendid pota

A line musical will be held at the
home of Wm. Anderson on Saturday
evening. A large number of Alma's
leading musicians will take a part on
the program.
A family reunion was held at the
home of Geo. Five, two and one-fourth
miles southwest of town, last Sunday.
About fifteen were present and all re
port a splendid time.
Several of our citizens are repairing
their sidewalks but there are still others
who should follow their example.
Some of our sidewalks are in terrible
condition and unsafe to walk upon after
dark.
A pair of Italian musicians discoursed
music to the inhabitants of this village,
Monday morning. Tho street piano
which tiny possessed, was an especially
sweet toned and harmonious instru
ment. Ed. Weston and mother left for Port
land, Monday morning. Mrs. Weston
will visit friends and relatives, and Ed.
will oversee a large job of plumbing and
steam heating, which he has contracted
in the place.
Xorth Shade now holds the position
as banner township for the most
aggressive work in Sabbath school lines.
A house to house visitation has been
mado and a Sunday school organized in
each school district.
Tom Pringle has secured a splendid
position in Bowling Green, Ohio, and
left for that city Monday morning.
During his stay in this city, Mr. Pringle
has won a host of friends, who will
miss him. He is a first-class workman,
and we predict for him unbound success
in his new field of labor.
Dr. Geo. II. Gilbert of llt51- Pearl
street Cleveland, returned homo Satur
day morning, after a twelve days' visit
with Dr. Pringlo. The Doctor has been
a resident of Cleveland for twenty-seven
years, and he says that of all t.he small
places he ever visited, ho has never
found one so pleasant and sociable as
Alma. He is a genial good natnred
fellow, whose very presence would have
a soothing effect on either sick or well.
And with all of these good qualities, he
is a whole souled, through and through
Republican, and says that McKinlv
will carry everything north of the
Mason and Dixon line, with t lit? posibl
exception of two or three states owned
by the silver syndicates. The Doctor
promises to come n little later next year,
for the purpose of hunting and fishing,
and wo shall all be glad to see him
again.
