Last Thursday it snowed and as yet the officials at the Detroit, Grand Rapids & Western depot have not cleaned off their sidewalk. Pretty near time isn't it l)Oys? A move is on foot in Montcalm county by prominent republicans to establish republican newspapers at Edmore Sheridan and Lakeview. Success to their enterprise. Rev. Thomas R. Easterday, D. D., of Sault Ste. Mario was the guest of Win Howe Sr. and family over Sunday. Mr Easterday is commissioner of schools for Chippewa county and ho gives a very high compliment to Wm. Howe, class of UM, Alma College, who is teaching in that county. I believo that, all things else being equal, the happiest woman is the woman who is n mother and the maker of home; but if she cannot fulfil her true destiny, if she must enter the business world, she should be given the greatest consideration, simply lcause she is a woman. I have heard women sar that they ask for nothing on the ground of sex Perhaps they don't; but person ally I cannot forget their sex. At the last meeting of the village council it was voted to put in a board petition in the upper room at Firemen's Hall and use the sanio for a council room. Tho case of Frank Eaves vs. Nathaniel White, receiver for the Cripple Revenge Threshing Co., was held before Justice Geo Friday afternoon. Judgement was rendered in behalf of plaiutiff for six cents and costs of ten dollars. Leonard of St. Louis appeared for tho defense and Spinney of Alma and Swarthout of Saginaw for the plaintiff.
