In adding the marvelous Lockhart comedy elephants to their already stu pendous enterprise Ringlirg Bros, have offered to the American public a novelty that has created more genuine interest than any eveut in the amusement world during the past half century. None of the familiar tricks unci lumbe'ring, un gainly acts performed by other ele phants are included in their repertoire. They are literally animal actors. They present complete comedies, prcperly cos turned and with appropriate scenic ef fects, and they perform their artistic work with a sense of its value and an appreciation of its humor such as ro human comedian could surpass. In one of their ludiciously funny comedies, the clown elephant be( onu s intoxicated, and, reeling about apparently in tho last stages of I lit briatiou is apprehended by an elephant policeman, armed with a great club, and marched away to the office of the neaiest magistrate. This legal dignitary, enseoneed in his high judicial chair, and gowned and be wigged as befits his high office, sits in judgment upon the offender, and hav ing heard the evidence and wisely pon dered upon the enormity of the offence, declares in unmistakable pantomime that the culprit is guilty and is commit ted to jail. The policeman elephant im mediately acts upon tho order of the court, seizes the commitment papers, catches tho offender, now fully sobered, by the ear, and hustles him off to jail. All the actors in this laughable comedy are elephants. Not a word of command is spoken ; and so well have the ele phant comedians learned their difficult lesson that they never falter for a mo ment in their unspoken lines. The police court scene is, however, only one of several intensely amusing comedies per formed by these elephant actors, and, in addition, they present a complete vaude ville programme, embracing jig dancing, waltzing, playing on musical instru ments, iiitrieati military evolutions and other feats that are creditable only to those who have actually seen these marvelous elephants comedians. Ring ling Bros., stupendous institution will exhibit in Alma, Friday, Aug. ll, when Lockhart's famous comedy elephants and hundrt ds of other wonderful areuic, zoologie and hippodromie features will be presented heie for the lirst time.
