(Jen. Scott. —The Washington corres pondent of the Philadelphia Ledger writes: “ Of course Gen. Scott, as I always wrote you, is virtually recalled and not merely suspended. The latter term is merely ex pressive of the fact that there are reasons tor his recall. The Court of Inquiry will bring these to light, and show that Gen. Scott’s direct offence was not military, but an as sumption of diplomatic power. Gen. Scott, in a word, advised Mr. Trist, after the lat ter was recalled, to entertain the Mexican proposition of peace, and he became thus indirectly the author, or at least, co-operator in the negotiations. Gen. Scott had no authority to do so, and is answerable for the act; but the administration will not be rig orous in regard to him, and content itself with maxing out t e charge, and withdraw ing Gen. Scott b »>n 'he command oi the army.” Effects of Chloroform in Asthma.— Having been subject to frequent attacks of asthma for a number of years, I was in duced to try the effect of Chloroform. I find an attack about 2 o’clock in the morn ing with a wheezing noise, a tightness across the chest, and a cough—l now came to the conclusion to try Chloroform, and accor dingly put about four or five drops of the pure article in one corner of my pocket handkerchief, and inhaled it freely, in a few minutes the construction of the chest dila ted, and I began to breathe more freely and easily, which was soon followed by a co pious expectoration of mucus, and in a tew minutes morel was relieved of every symp tom cf asthma. I retired to bed and slept very comfortably all night, and have not had any symptoms of this disease since.
