TEKMS; - - $2.50 Per Annum OUH SPLENDID PROSPECTS A EEASOU rcr. ix-; MEDIATE ACTION —LET T'lE NORTHERN j PACIFIC UNDERSTAND US. It is but little over two years since the hst rail of tbe Union Pacific was laid, ; ' | the North rn Pacific has already v- ru /. *tr bcyoml the Mississippi, and will v. vy soon be completed to the lied River ol tb North. We at the western extremity < j.ako Superior, can begin to see on a’l s’ i of ns, the forming of the vast system 1’ at dial! bo tributary to the Northern Pacific railway; and the time of the completion •of! that system In its principal route can 1 ascertained with satisfactory nearness, by | noting the probable time required to build | the Northern Pacific from the lied river to ' Puget Sound. We cannot miss the marl, widely, in looking to the spring of IST ", a the extreme limit of the time accessary, tc construct the Northern Pacific road com plete from the valley of the Rod river to the Pacific coast. But tlie tributary lines, especially the forming the network centering at tl ■ east ern terminus, will hasten to make then con nections at a much earlier period 1- an that. Pacific railroads arc no longer an experi ment; and railroad men will not wait till tills one is through, before endeavoring to have their lines that arc now contemplated or commenced, in full running order, and truly for their share of the international trade that will at once pour over the W orld’s Air Line Route, when its last - c non has been laid down. "And there are other causes that will urge subordinate lines to a speedy completion, among which are, the desirableness ol an early connection with the Red river valley, so soon to be reached, and the necessity oi competing with rivals in the race, oi which .there will boa large number. Consequently wo may reasonably expect that the years 1872 and 187:3 will, develop an amount of railroad construction in the Slates of Wisconsin and Minnesota, to which there has been no parallel hereto fore. More is now accomplished in a twelve month, than twelve years were wont to see. It is the simple truth that the next three years will do far more toward the swift de velopmont nf tbo northern range of sHmo and territories, than has been accomplished m the domain tributary to the Union Pa cific, during the last five years, and that the close of the first .century of American Independence, will behold a great West that no one could have dreamed ol fitly years ago. * The day of inactivity in the great North west has gone forever by. Those of our people who have waited long years on Lake Superior for a railroad, will not have many more to wait. With the Northern Tacdi • itself running from the Great Ocean to the Great Lake in three years, and the chid lines of its eastern tributary system forced to make their connections on this Bay inside of that period, the inhabitants of Su perior may felicitate themselves on the dawn of a now and better era. But while the railroad prospect is so flattering, let not our property owners in termit a single effort. The best time to work, gentlemen, is while we have cncour njam.ut to work. We are heartily glad o: the strong disposition now manifested on • very hand to act the part of energy and liberality. But do not forget at this time ol rising tide and fair wind to run too straight course of your best intentions an ; original plans. We want a straight, on.! bonus to the Northern Pacific that m>stir* business inside of sixty days! Lot our Ink: mg go, and our deeds show cun .apprccia- lion of this favorable crisis. We have reason to believe that the non resident property holders arc alive to tr situation. We urge upon tin m immediate and united action of the most decisive chur dcter. We know that aoti u taken r. \v by general consent (as scorns fair and pro bable) will accomplish results worth talk iag about. Deeds now, and tan. r.nr wards. No property owner can possibly regret a present and .urge librrahty. . lify then the wisdom of your mvu tmeiits n this key of American commerce, by snowing how and when to make that in vestment toll in power, .ict, torn success Walts is.
