TUBERCULOSIS AND ITS CURE
Will M. Roes, a Wisconsin man, has
written a little book on his experience
with tuberculosis and says that the
sooner people who are afflicted with
the disease learn that they cannot con
tinue to live the same as before the
disease saddled itself apon them but
must undergo a sane and systematic
change of life, the sooner will tuber
culosis cease to be a national scourge.
Mr. Ross ia no believer in the climate
cure —because he has tried it. “In my
sojourn in the southwest,” he says, “I
made it a point to discußS with as many
health seekers as I could the methods
they were employing in pursuit of
health. The results were amazing.
Where getting well was their only
business, they had generally neglected
to learn even the essentials of that
business, but were following a hit or
miss road to health —or destruction. ”
He says that it requires from two to
five years to be cured and advises all
who have the disease to consult the
family physicians and follow his direc
tions. He is convinced that fresh air,
rest and proper food is the only cure, j
He says that precautions must be taken
to prevent set-back and that qua-ks
should be avoided.
A SENSIBLE WORD OP ADVICE
A neighboring exchange give,! ex
pression to sentiment that the Censor
desires to emphatically endorse and
commend to the consideration of the
numerous gentlemen who are seeking
nomination on the county republican
ticket.
“With the campaign for county office
just opening up the candidates for
various offices should bear in mind that
but one can be nominated for each
office, and they should so conduct their
campaign that when the winner is
named the rest of the candidates
should fall in line and give him their
best support. This is the true principle
of polities and there is nothing to be
gained by not supporting the candidate
which has the most votes at the pri
maries. Another thing that the candi
dates should remember and that is
“play the game square” do not “knock”
your opponent; more votes are lost to
the “knockers” than they think. Con
duct your canvass clean and honorable
and you need have no fear of the out
come for if you lose you will know
that you were defeated by honorable
means and if yon win you were able to
secure the nomination by the same
manner.”
GOVERNOR GILLETTE TO THE FORE
When he was in Viroqua two weeks
ago Governor James N. Gillette of
California, gave it out that he would
make no interference to the prize fight
slated for San Francisco between the
bruisers Johnson and JefFries on July 4th.
After arriving home the governor
changed hia mind *n<! now gives official
notice that he will resist the pugilistic
encounter. This has tossed the sport
ing element of the United States into
a fever of o ,citement and it is declared
that the big event will be pulled off in
Nevada. *
Madison Democrat: To the exiesßive
use ef alcohol was charged one-third
of the insane dependents, between 30
and 40 per cent of all epileptic cases
and from 40 to 50 per cent of all cases
of imbecility in the United States by
Bailey B. Burritt, assistant secretary
of the State Charities Aid association
of New York, in an address before the
National Conference of Charities and
Correction. Mr. Burritt also stated
that 00 per cent of the total number
of arrests in Massachusetts for the
year 1903 were due to public intoxica
tion. Sucl. startling statistics as these
naturally have caused more than half
ot this nation to be dry.
It is predicted that congress will pd-
I journ.about the last days of June. The
j country will have cause for rejoicing.
The jealousies, bickerings and noisy
i a.claim of mouthy politicians, seeking
their own aggrandizement, has thrown
j the country into an unsettled state.
I No man or company of men is willing
j to make investments in industrial en
! terprises while this unrest is at its
! high stage of ferment.
Conductors on passenger trains in
i this state received notice that the
j gambling on any of their cars must be
i stopped. Playing cards for money will
• not be allowed under any circumstances,
i The company of course does not object
| to passengers plajing cards, if they de
sire to, but cannot permit gambling,
| according to instructions from the Wis
consin Railroad Commission.—Ex.

Basing his estimate on recent reports

Charles Harris, director of the state
j free employment bureau, states that
Kansas will need about 40,000 harvest
| hands this year. __
Just a little “warming up” in state
i political matters has commenced. There
will doubtless be sufficient to make
i things merry all along the line.

of money equal to the district attorney's salary
for many years. These cases have been won by
me in the lower courts and I have pride enough
to deeire to win them in the supreme court. The
work incident to their preparation and trial de
