Agricultural Notes.
[By Oscar Gunderson, County Representative]
A farmer’s meeting was held
at the Clearwater Lake Academy
on Tuesday evening, July 21.
The meeting was well attended
and much interest was shown.
Che Advent settlement at Clear
water Lake is a prosperous farm
ing community.
We often hear the expression
“penny wise and pound foolish.’’
I do not know how many times
I have been reminded of this say
ing during the last week, but it
has occured several times. It
cost money to prepare a field and
plant it to potatoes. It takes
lots of work to keep it cultivated
and free from weeds. It takes a
little money to buy Paris Green
and if applied in time will keep
the bugs in check. Does it pay
to raise potatoes and let the bugs
ruin them? If the spray rains
off, spray again.
One of the largest farming
communities in the county is
northwest of Woodruff or in the
Arbor Vitae-Woodruff region.
We visited this region early last
week. Several of the farmers
here have good sized herds, and
are safely headed towards dairy
farming.
A farmers meeting will be held
at theFoelkner school house this
month.
Next week the Agricultural rep
resentatives will meet at Marsh
field for a week at a Farm Sur
vey School conducted by the U.
S. Dept, of Agriculture and the
University of Wisconsin.
