We desire to express our sin cere appreciation to the many neighbors and friends who so kindly gave of their sympathy and assistance at the death of our beloved mother and grand mother. Mr. and Mrs. Hans Hanson AND FAMILY. Life’s Treasure Stores. Success and contentment begin with the realization that life represents a valuable treasure. We may liken life to a field. At first the owner values It for wild berries; then, ceasing to be a wanderer, he becomes an agri culturist, and values it for its rich har vest; grown wiser still, he discovers coal; amazed at the treasure, he digs and finds silver and gold; astounded, he goes deeper, and lo! the seam is full of diamonds. And every life holds all the strata of underlying and un suspected stores of treasures. —Rev. Newell Dwight’Hillis. Just Half Obeying. Sherwood, tired of his play, had made several attempts at opening the kitchen door. His mother, hearing him, called out: “Turn the knob and come in,’’ prompting Sherwood’s an swer, “Well, mamma, I is a turnin’, but I isn't tuipin’ in.” Million-Dollar Brain. “Old Bostely says he has a million dollar brain,” observed the man "who was always picking up information. “He’s quite right,” a’nswered the other; “it would cost him fully that much to find out what’s the matter with it.” Loss From Fire. Apart from the thousands of lives destroyed by fire, this country sus tains an annual loss from this cause of at least $300,000,000. Real Friendship. Honest men and women esteem and value nothing so much in this world as a real friend. Such a one is as it were another self, to whom we impart our most secret thoughts, who partake of our Joy, and comforts us in our af fliction ; add to this, that his company is an everlasting pleasure to us.— Translated from the Brahmin. Stanley Korpal, 16-lt. Treasurer. What Memory Is. The popular notion that memory is “an association of ideas” is true. Memory, plainly, is not only made up of an association of ideas but also of associated impressions living things receive. Such associations may be due to real and necessary connections such as “iron bar,” or to your mental coupling up of such as “blue funk,” “sweet melody,” “pretty girl.” Habitual linkage makes the im pression firmer, the retention in mind more durable and a more simple han dle whereby the matter can be recalled at will.
