PERSO N A L S Mr. and Mrs. Fred Meloy of Say ner were visitors at Eagle River yesterday. Victor DeLaescilles and J. B. Caban is were at Eagle River from Phelps and Long lake Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Shatttfck and children of Sparta are visiting the former’s brother John and family in the village. C. M. Lewis returned to Eagle River the first of the week from attending the Democratic conven tion at New York City. I. L. Jordan, Mr. and Mrs. Kettle and Miss Tiny Kimmele, all of Ladysmith, arrived yesterday for a visit at the Menefee home in Eagle River. Thos Foley left Sunday for Can ada, near Montreal, where he will take up farm work with a brother and other relatives who operate the old home farm. Mrs. Wm. Kiss and children ar rived in Eagle River Saturday for a visit at the home of her mother Mrs. F. G. Mclntyre and with other relatives in the village. Her home is in Milwaukee. Mrs. H. Lorenzen and son drove up yesterday from Cihcago and will spend the next two months at the Lorenzen home on Cran berry lake. Mr. L. will arrive this week for his vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Chris Hermanson are entertaining the former’s mother, Mrs. Hermanson and Dan Christensen, who arrived last Thursday for a visit at the Her manson home at Otter rapids west of the village. J. E. Ekelund, father to Mrs. Pet’er Hedeen of Conover and S. J. Vernsten, and uncle, both of Chicago, are visiting at the He deen home. They together with Mr. and Mrs. Hedeen were Eagle River visitors Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hagen and son Bobby, together with Mrs. H. M. Moyer, left Saturday night for their Chicago homes. For the past two months they have been visit ing in Eagle River and at cottages on Joyce lake northwest of Con over. Wm. Schlect and daughter of Minocqua were at Eagle River the first of the week. “Billy” S. knows Eagle River from some' thirty years back and met with several of his old friends “of lumbering days when this country was a real man’s country. Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Parks and Arthur Simmons of Racine, after a week’s visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Simmons on Big Bass lake east of town, returned Satuiday to their homes. Arthur is night wire chief for the Wis consin Telephone company at Ra cine. Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Williams, for mer residents of State Line near Pickerel lake, are at their old home for a short vacation, arriv ing last week from Minneapolis. The Williams family are now re sidents of that city, but still have Wrecking Car for you Call us up if you are in trouble: car broke and you have to have repairs. Right on the job in a jiffy. SERVICE GARAGE All That the Name Implies a longing for their summer home in the North Woods. They spent Monday in Eagle River. Thomas Jackson and daughter Miss Mary M. Jackson arrived Monday afternoon from Chicago for an outing at the Jackson cot tages on Otter lake. They were met at Monico by Dr. and Mrs. C. E. Brooks of Madison who are spending a vacation on Otter. Miss Jackson is connected with the Santa Fe railroad and has charge of the advertising depart ment of that corporation. She with the Brooks will spend several weeks here. Walter Norlander is here from Chicago for a vacation period. Walter has been in Chicago for several years and still retains his liking for the Big Woods region. During the Outdoor show in Chi cago last May he was a regular vi ;itor in order to secure northern Wisconsin atmosphere—something only to be had where outdoor peo ple congregate especially when they are old-time friends. He will finish his two weeks outing- the latter part of this week. Help the Children. July 17th will be Tag Day in county for needy children. Give ’till it hurts. Ceylon is very nearly the of Ireland. It is a separate political entity, possessing its own consti tution, legislative council, and governor. It is expected that the total value of its merchandise trade for 1923 will be upward of $20,000,000. The discoverer of the possibili ties of gas for illuminating pur poses was Phillippe L. Under auspices of the American Legion, real Indians will hold a big Pow Wow and all Indian dances shown and explained. Fair Grounds, Eagle River, Wednesday and Thursday July 23-4; after noons at 2:30, evenings at 7:30. The central incinerator of the city of London, England, is to be harnessed to a power station which will generate electricity for the lighting system and the run ning of tube railway and surface cars. Probably the most curious res taurant in the world is in Buenos Aires. The equipment consists of one large pot about a yard in diameter, and one large fork with which the customers, for the sum of five cents, are allowed a chance of fishing out a chunk of meat. The honorary secretary of the British War Graves Department says that the original wooden crosses from the war graves of France and Flanders can be claim ed at the cemetaries by relatives of the fallen men, when perman ent headstones are erected. Due to other health activities in Vilas county the center conference will be postponed until August 21st, when the usual free examin ation offered to prospective moth ers and children under the age of six years will again be offered par ents in Vilas county. Miss McCarthy, health center nurse will be in Eagle River early in August and will arrange with Miss Christman, the county nurse for either home visits or possibly a day will be given over to weigh ing and measuring- children at the court house. This will give moth ers an opportunity to check up on the gain children have made be tween center days. Requests for home visits by Miss McCarthy may be made to Mrs. Louis Zimpel mann, Eagle River, or mailed di rectly to Miss McCarthy, Box 741, Rhinelander. Russia has again gone into the egg business. In Rock Island County, Illinois, where the Indian took his last stand east of the Mississippi, a memorial park is to be established. The park will cover part of the scene of the Black Hawk wars.
